That last season was powerful. I am not religious at all but I recognize the sensitive nature of the subject matter in S15. I think they achieved a really great ending while avoiding outright offensive stuff, it was pretty thoughtful/creative.
If you gave up on the show around S8/S9 I don't blame you but I would recommend picking it up again. It may never hit the same greatness as the original S1-S5 run but it gets pretty close. My big problem with the several seasons after S5 is that they tried to focus on singular drawn out plotlines and the tone just felt too serious. By about S10 it becomes light-hearted again, the actors feel like they have genuine chemistry and are having genuine fun and there are more MOTW episodes.
actually it kinda broke its own lore and that took me out of it
like there are things in previous seasons that wouldn't have happened if Chuck was just an evil narcissist. If they wanted him to be that, fine, but you gotta be consistent. It really came out of nowhere.
