Its frequently used like you did, as appeals to authority, and spoken of by people with little understanding of it as a state of omg can't believe people don't believe what i do. This isn't how you approach a matter, its how you approach a theological idea at best you use a correlation, but that doesn't explain why a greenhouse gas behaves the way it does, why is CO2 like this, why methane is so dangerous, how water vapor differs, why volcanoes have a net cooling effect despite spewing tons of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere. there have frequently been doomsday sayers that have made incorrect predictions that has hurt the credibility in the public eye. You had al gore movie make a huge claim that mt Kilimanjaro would no longer have snow on the top of it after 2014-5. These people making these claims, though to spur progress, harm the cause more then help it. 3. Recognizing this just isn't a matter of public policy but also recognizing the economic interest involved and how they shape policy.
