The only things that happened before Disney were Iron Man and Incredible Hulk, the latter which didn't do that well. Regardless, it's Disney's money that helped Marvel realize the MCU. Marvel wasn't doing all that great before Disney, hence their entire plan to start making their own movies and eventually selling themselves. They were facing lawsuits and had reached stinker levels on their movies and the MCU plan was to make tons of low budget movies of lesser known characters.
