Is that when you run a magnet over a CRT and it messes up the screen? Used to do that with TVs.

The opposite, actually: Most CRT monitors had an option buried in their settings menu that would scramble the whole screen for a couple moments to get rid of that magnetic interference. It rarely made a noticeable difference to the image quality, but the process made it look like something was wrong if you didn't know what was going on (which of course was true of most people in school computer labs).

On a related note, one time, I helped my dad set up a new CRT TV for a family friend, and even though we'd set everything up correctly, the picture was still super distorted. We tried a bunch of different things before discovering that the "TV stand" she was using was actually a very large old speaker with a blanket draped over it. Once we removed the giant magnet from its immediate vicinity, the TV worked fine.
