And four more drops:

#564: Bjork - Army of Me (3:54):

Nominator: Bane [24/38 Remaining]

Initial Score: 58.15
Revised Score: 62.05
Final Score: 57.73

(First Reaction: A great song, though perhaps not one I'm interested in reacting to at the moment.)

!Not many Industrial Pop songs, so that's fairly neat.

The singer further explained the song: "Imagine you're in a club full of heavy metal types and grunge people; 'Army of Me' is like someone's granny blasting out over the PA and saying, 'Snap out of it! Stop whining! Wash your hair! Smarten yourself up!'"

Good message, though not one I'm especially interested in at the moment... not that I don't need to hear it, mind you.

[Final Thoughts: Not a lot to add here. Great song, but I'm not done being a whiny twit, so... not quite what I want, valuable as it is.]

#563: Clifford Brown - Joy Spring (3:18):
https://youtu.be/T2gHrmxhA0s

Nominator: Haste [15/31 Remaining]

Initial Score: 43.21
Revised Score: 55.79
Final Score: 55.79 [Upgraded to 55.96] [Upgraded to 57.75]

(First Reaction: It wasn't intentional for the score to countdown like that, but now that's all I can focus on. *blinks*

Anyway, I'm sorry, but this is the type of very traditional instrumental music that doesn't do much for me. Not something really worth avoiding, but not something I particularly wanted to hear either.)

I think I'm in an oddly good mood today, as I seem to be generally liking every song. This still isn't one of my preferred styles, but we've got some fine trumpet playing here & "happy jazz" is definitely a genre I'm not familiar with. This is a fun and enjoyable look at something that I'd normally never listen to and a fine addition to the topic.

...Somehow I thought those sentences would take up more space than they actually did. I can't think of anything to add about the song itself, so why not waste time with some trivia? DID YOU KNOW: The Manhattan Transfer did a lyrical cover of this song titled "Sing Joy Spring"?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mn5KLRaZzwU

I'm not a fan of that version, but it's pretty neat to hear something from the group again. It's been a long time since their song "Cantaloop (Flip Out!)" was nominated. I still go back and listen to that one every few months and I still have no idea what to make of it. I guess I like it quite a bit since it's had much more staying power than its score would have indicated and it's definitely unique.

...okay so talking about an unrelated song to fill time isn't exactly the hallmark of a good writeup, but I definitely filled space, I can say that much.

[FInal Thoughts: It's a pleasant song that's easy to listen to, so it serves as a pretty good introduction to the things I kinda like tier.

...well, since it's not at exactly 55 points, it's not really an "introduction" as some other songs have likely been eliminated at that tier before it, but you know what I meant.]

[Later: A minor boost to the score for organizational purposes.]

[Slightly Later: Eh, let's try giving this song an extra point. It's kinda neat.]

-perhaps an open door-

#562: The Beach Boys - That's Not Me [2:31]:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X1XDMaz4TZ4

Nominator: Lasa [7/14 Remaining]

Initial Score: 57.80
Revised Score: 57.80
Final Score: 57.80?

(First Reaction: Sweet, but not one of my favorites from the band.)

!I'll never pass on a chance to listen to more of The Beach Boys. Still not my favorite from the album, but it's pretty good and I enjoy it.

[Final Thoughts: I can't decide if I want to move this song up any further or not, so I'm just setting the score at 57.80 as a placeholder for now.]

[Later: It's a nice song and the sentiment within it is sweet, but happily going back to your hometown is rather the opposite of what I'd like for a song. Give me songs about how much the singer's hometown sucks & they hate everyone there. So.... I do kinda like this; I mean, it's a band I've got some nostalgia for & it's performed well, so I'm not against listening to it or anything.]

-perhaps love is like the ocean; full of conflict, full of pain-

==========================================

#561: Monokaki Aer - Yoigoshi ni Kuusou Shoujo (3:24):
https://youtu.be/JU00PneVFFw

Nominator: UF8 [21/30 Remaining]

Initial Score: 63.18
Revised Score: 57.84
Final Score: 57.84

(First Reaction: A sleepless midnight with no tomorrow... well, this song gets a lot of easy points for lyrical content. The performance is technically impressive, but I'm not quite as into the fast-paced whispered talking type of singing going on here--I'm not opposed to it, it's just not likely my first choice in terms of singing styles. Still, a good song with lyrics that are the type of things I look for, so well done with this one.

!Ehhh.... can't think of anything I really want to say here at the moment either...

[Final Thoughts: Another for the "good song I don't have much to say about" pile.]
