Tidus was just the audience surrogate so the rest of the party had an excuse to explain to the player about Yevon, summoners, and the world in general. I have heard that, but I think they are more duel protag. If Tidus wasn't there. She would just have gone a normal journey. Tidus made the journey the special one we know.
