When I changed my diet a few years ago I made an effort to identify the situations that caused me to overeat. For example, taking a container of food(box of crackers, bag of chips, etc.) to the couch with me or to my desk at work. I found that I would always eat more than I intended to with an open container than if I portion my food before going to the place that I eat it. Similarly, I changed to portioning my meals on a plate and then prohibiting myself from going back for additional servings. Those happened to be 2 of the bad eating habits that I unconsciously did and were very easy to prevent. There may be ideas you can make to help yourself from accidentally overeating.
