I don't know anything about the specific church here, but I'd wager most churches have something in their by-laws that would be seen as homophobic but it probably isn't something that most of the people attending are aware is there and isn't what the sermon is ever about. Also betting a good chunk of people dont pay attention to the sermons and only go to church cause thats what a good christian is supposed to do.
