....yes....holding/interrogating a child (citizen no less) without their parents or consul is illegal.

yeah brother this is very much a crime, if you think otherwise then you don't understand our legal system

Did the officers in question know for certain that the parents were available? In smuggling cases, you can't exactly call the parents--and the 'parents' that might come in would be the exact person you don't want present during questioning.

Edit: Actually can you cite the federal law that prohibits questioning a child without a parent present? I'm not certain it's a crime.
