The single best thing you can do is just start tracking what you eat and what you weigh. There's no single right way to do that.

This is the most common trait among those who successfully lose weight and keep it off. Specific diets, macronutrient ratios, exercise programs etc can work better or worse for your goals. But tracking your progress routinely is step 1
