Topic	Why do we still have graveyards?

We use literal miles of otherwise perfectly vacant land to bury inanimate objects and mark the plots with carved stone, granite and marble. I say dig up all the bodies, cremate them, give the ash to the next of kin, and use the land to build businesses and housing, among other things.
