Really the first dungeon you should just focus on not getting hit, recognizing telegraphed attacks, and abusing weaknesses. Yeah this is a problem too. How are you supposed to actually learn the combat system when Ambush -> AOA instantly ends most non-boss encounters? And then the numerical scaling is legit off so when you do hit a (mini)boss it gets rough. It really does smooth out immensely after the first dungeon, though.
