Barring decks that can activate trap cards from the hand or deck, most of them are too slow. You have to set them down your turn THEN next turn you can activate them. Usually with stricter activation requirements than spells. Meanwhile quickly spells and hand traps for negate effects can be used basically whenever even without setting anything on the field and thus not until you play them the opponent can only assume what you have. Meanwhile setting down a card facedown, that's a lot easier to guess what is coming.

There's some exceptions, of course. Madolche decks like I run have effects from our spell cards which can let us set down ones facedown when one of our monsters is bounced to the deck. Or solemn cards, especially solemn strike since it's 1500 life points but can stop most special summons or any monster effect, barring a few floating effects that get wonky because it activates in response to being destroyed.
