The mods aren't doctors. They aren't medical professionals. Most, if they have higher education, just have a bachelors in something unrelated to medicine. You can't really expect them to evaluate medical claims. And while they probably should acknowledge more of a gray area -- particularly when actual medical professionals don't necessarily see things in black & white -- I'm sure they're under mandates from the owners which don't accommodate that kind of nuance.

And I'm sure a lot of the questionable moderation practices are driven by the site's owners rather than just the mods themselves.
