Final score: 9/30

I know, I know. It's a classic. One of the cream-of-the-crop finishers in old-school gaming. We wouldn't be where we are without the Spine Rip, and for that I respect it. I main Sub-Zero too because I'm a scrub so I adore the character and all he stands for.

But when you look at it objectively... man, the original has not aged well, and that's what Gavs told me to rank.

The recreation of it in MKX shows how much the simplicity of the move does right, but the limitations of the original hamper it so much. It's too sloppy to do much aesthetically, the "dominance" of the move doesn't translate that much anymore, and we've seen so much more in our time that this just isn't that big of a deal anymore. If a "retro" game were to come out with this kind of move and we didn't already have history attached to it, nobody would bat an eye. In fact, I'm sure many already have. That's the perspective I have to come at this with, which sucks, because I want to rank this much higher out of nostalgia. However, nostalgia is not part of my scoring.
