Luigi's Mansion is a great little game that surprisingly takes the Super Mario universe and makes a cool atmospheric title out of it whilst still retaining that kid-friendly charm. It reminds me a lot of great films like The Witches, The Gate, or Coraline, movies that can introduce kids to horror in a more gradual fashion, with elements of comedy and light-heartedness that can take a lot of the pressure off or ease you into the scarier elements of the films.

The "Good Night" screen fits right into the survival horror-lite gameplay Luigi's Mansion portrays. It's not the terrifyingly bloody "You Died" of Resident Evil; "Good Night" implies a less lethal game over, a mere fainting from the shock of ghostly apparitions as Luigi simply can't take the fear anymore. Still, it's a different game over from what other Mario games show. It's a bit more concrete and real seeing Luigi lying helpless on the floor for a few moments than just seeing Mario fall down a pit.

It's just a good detail that contributes to the overall experience.
