I don't think it's just artists, I'm a cook at a nice restaurant and everyone I work with says the place is "just ok, nothing special" but in reality we have won numerous awards including best fine dining, best italian food, best family owned business, and a few more every single year (except last year when our head chef died) for over 20 years now. So I think most people think their work is worse than it actually is. I think most creative people are perfectionists. And they really care what people think despite not showing it..kind of why I stopped doing drawing topics. Felt people were unappreciative of the time I put into it.
