There are so many rules and laws in place that you get suspended 30 days unpaid for even being accused of abusing inmates. I work in a county jail. I work in the segregation unit. AKA the unit with problem inmates or the high profile serial killer/rapist inmates. I've seen inmates attack deputies and they almost never win that fight (normally due to sheer numbers, they're normally smart enough not to go after the deputies who can handle themselves). But I've had inmates spit at me, threaten to rape my whole family and kill me when they leave and I still haven't beat any of them.
