Quick responses:

I've never heard of The Leftovers... not usually into dramas, but I may look into that when I get a chance.

I love DBZ, but I can't really be nostalgic for it, as like Viva la Vida it's never gone anywhere. I've still got seasons of Super to watch as the last episode I caught was the first tournament for the Super Dragon Balls that introduced Hit, I could pop in FighterZ if I want a current game, and I still occasionally replay Tenkaichi 3 when I need to do something stupid like kill everyone as Babidi.

Embarrassing to admit, but I didn't realize the same singer did all of those songs. It wouldn't have impacted anything, for better or worse.

Song Name: Futile Devices
Song Origin: Sufjan Stevens

Nominator: mcflubbin (7/15)

After clicking one of YouTube's suggested videos (always a risky move), I am unsure if I should thank you or curse you for not nominating "The predatory wasp of the Palisades is out to get us!" instead. My feelings about the song, the debate about the song, and my feelings about the debate are all incredibly complex. I suspect that song would have scored incredibly highly, though I don't think I would have been prepared to actually say anything about the song.

Comparatively, Futile Devices is significantly less intense and emotionally draining. That is not to dismiss the song; it really is quite great. It's also amusing how quick people are to assign any type of meaning they wish to it; beyond the typical arguments over if the song is straight or gay, there's the comedy option about it being from the perspective of a dog (which I don't believe, but I appreciate the attempt), and at least one person suspects robots.

...no matter how many times I listen to this song, I cannot hear anything about robots.

[FINAL NOTES: While this is my first time hearing Sufjan Stevens music, I remember reading about him in a Cracked article. His Illinoise album originally had Superman on the cover, but for legal reasons, they covered him up with a sticker of balloons, before being removed completely.

Amusingly, you can find all three versions of the cover on YouTube by searching for the predatory wasp song. The most viewed video uses the Superman artwork, the official upload uses the balloons, and the lyric video has a clear skyline.]

[FINAL-ER NOTES: I hadn't added him to ZA'LIST at the time this was written, but I'm going to go back and edit him into the final version of it. I do want to give at least two more songs a chance and feel I ranked this one a bit too low... not sure how high up I wish I'd placed it, but higher than this at any rate.]
