You mean the country that spent decades calling us "The Great Satan"?

To be fair, that was almost entirely our fault as well.

When you deliberately help hamstring a modernized democratic revolution in favor of maintaining the power of a despised monarch who happens to be in your back pocket, you kind of lose a bit of your grounds to complain when that monarch later gets overthrown by a militant and radical religious revolt that mostly still hates you for interfering the first time around.

And then when you spend the next 40 years shutting down trade and political relations with them, and never treating them as anything other than an antagonistic entity, it's probably not surprising that they don't necessarily feel all that interested in being friends.

Basically, if we'd stayed the fuck out and not backed the Shah in the 1950s, Iran would be a VERY different place right now, and our relations with them would probably be a hell of a lot better:

On top of which, a more democratized Iran would have obviated the need for us to support Iraq in the 1980s, which in turn probably would have prevented the Gulf War and the post 9/11 intervention there, which in turn would mean ISIS wouldn't currently be a thing.
