This isn't a new opinion for me, I've held it from the very first time I played Ace Attorney, but I think Maya is just not one of the worst characters in gaming, but in fictional media in general.

I don't particularly LOVE any of the main cast in the series (I was the low on both Phoenix and Edgeworth too apparently, though Edgeworth is still good and above the Charley line and Hobonix alone would be way above the CL since I think that's the most real version of him) but Maya is by far the worst. If 1-5 didn't happen and I saw how good the game could be without her (and Ema just being a plain better version of her) I don't think I keep playing the series.

I hate spiritchanneling and how she's a deus ex machina generator. I hate her personality, I hate the nix/maya connection and I hate how any character "growth" she gets in a case is immediately ignored later. SoJ Maya still acts like a child and it's infuriating to me.

To me the main characters in this series are mostly a vehicle to highlight bursts of much better side characters. I realize through many years here that that is not even close to the majority opinion but it's the only way I could get through some of the cases.

That's the gist, but I'll keep going tomorrow when I'm caffeinated again if you want. No troll, all real opinions.
