I'm a huge fan of AFI.

I really enjoyed this one because it hearkens back to something they used to be really good at: putting together a cohesive album. All of their best albums are pretty masterfully arranged and very flow-y, best consumed in full, in order, no skippables.

Somewhere along the way, they lost the ability to do that and it seemed more and more like they just put out a collection of songs with nothing in particular binding one to the next. In everything from DU to Bodies, it was painfully clear there were favorites and fillers. Even if there were good tracks on an album, they felt out of place or were blunted in a dud sandwich.

This one, on the other hand, feels like a very carefully and deliberately curated album and I love to see... erm... hear it.

I enjoyed each song but my highlights:

Holy Visions
VOIDWARD, I BEND BACK (my personal favorite and one that might make top 50 AFI songs for me <_<)
Nooneunderground

I'll have to give it like six or seven more listens before I have my final thoughts. I'm thinking it's a solid B-tier. I'm hesitant to give it an A-tier rating because I feel too much of it would be owed to what an upswing it is from Bodies.
