I'm pretty sure they tried outright opening the door, because I heard the handle jiggle a bit amid my parents' dogs raising hell. I should have called the cops, but whoever it was seemingly ran off pretty quickly, probably after hearing the dogs. I kind of shudder to think about what they were planning if it wasn't locked.
