Only hardcore game where I play is RotMG and when I die on a pretty good character I just sit blankly for a sec, say FUCK! and then either make a new character or stop for awhile. Doesn't bother me for long, just the quick 5 second frustration I died.

start over and play again

Diablo III I did hardcore easily enough, because it doesn't really have difficulty settings except moving yourself up to the next difficulty or tier when you think you are ready. I think I got to like tier 9 or w/e in it

Torchlight II I was intent on completing it on hardest difficulty/hardcore, and I think it probably took me like 5 characters before I got it done on pet Engineer

Diablo II I played on hardcore once and never again because it had no achievements or because I was too young to care otherwise

Terraria I would NEVER play on anything but softcore, what a waste of time

OH, and I forgot fucking divinity original sin II on Honour mode (hardest difficulty, hardcore)

now THAT pissed me off a lot, because you need to put a lot of time in to get far

I probably lost 3 or 4 times on the last act before I finally beat it, and it was close. Like I had never even seen the final battle before (honour was the first difficulty I played on past act II) so it was so unfair I was not ready at all, lol

BUT I DID IT! SCREW YOU DIVINITY

I don't play any games where my character can have a permanent death and even if I did I'd make a backup save.

I generally don't play hardcore games. I briefly did a Minecraft run where I kept generating new seeds until I got an island chain as a starting area and did a Hardcore run there, which was tough slogging to begin, but wound up being pretty fun once I got established.

I died once due to starvation early, so I just restarted the seed and went again.

This month's Walking Dead Issue #191 had a pretty shocking twist... not sure if really dead though

I'm done with TV after GoT, I'm tired of seeing great work turn into absolute shit because everything was rushed. Not fair to the cast at all.

Pretty much. I understand the philosophy that many people have toward hardcore, which is that playing a hardcore character gives the game more clearly defined victory/failure conditions (or if it's not a finite game, a failure state that they have to avoid, with the object of the game to get as far as possible), but playing as cautiously as is needed to succeed in hardcore mode just isn't my thing. I like being able to relax and/or take risks without losing the whole character.

I shrug and come back next reset to play again. I enjoy hardcore mode in games like path of exile or diablo 2 because it provides a convenient exit point to what would otherwise be grinding until I'm sick of it. It's fun to play for a week or two a few times each year, quitting when my character dies.

I generally don't enjoy, and thus don't play, games that require long investment, but delete your save data if you die once.

I like to slowly enjoy games, looking at everything for example, I don't want to worry about being careful all the time.

I once managed to generate a seed where there was like one island with one tree, and everything else was ocean.

It was cool, but the downside was that it didn't have a way to generate grass (and thus no crops, no animals, and no real way to survive without dipping into creative).

If that's the sort of gameplay you enjoy, though, and you play on PC, you should try Sky Factory if you haven't already. It starts you on a single block of dirt with a single tree, and you have to rebuild the entire world from scratch (it has extra mechanics beyond vanilla Minecraft, like being able to turn leaves into dirt and being able to sift dirt to get stone, sand, gravel, and other things).

Doesn't effect me too much but still leaves a bad taste in my mouth. Did I have fun leading up to that death? Sure. Does dying takes away the fun I had previously? No. Will I want to keep playing or start over after said death? Probably not and it is this last part that more than likely will prevent me from truly wanting to do any hardcore gameplay.

Only game ive done that I can think of is Arkham orgins I am the night mode.

Frustrating but at least getting through the story only takes a little over a few hours. Especially since you should know the game pretty well by then as you have to beat I think both normal and hard mode to unlock it
