If there was ever someone who could beat Link, it's him.
For my money, Plants vs. Zombies is one of the best games of the decade; right up there with Meteos, Portal and Contra 4. Over the past few years, there's been a much greater emphasis on casual gaming, but few developers have managed to craft games that both casual and hardcore gamers can enjoy in equal measure - PVZ excels at this, however, and it may just be the crown jewel of PopCap's impressive library. The visual style is a treat, the soundtrack is excellent, the gameplay is wildly addictive and rewarding... and it's easily one of the funniest games I've played, thanks to sharp writing and great characters.
The standout of the cast, though, isn't actually a plant nor a zombie: it's Crazy Dave, the player's neighbor. He's a truly strange fellow who wears a saucepan on his head, sells various supplies from the back of his car, and deeply loves tacos (even paying $1000 for one the player finds). When asked about his motives, he simply replies: "BECAUSE I'M CRAAAAAZY!" I guess that's as good a reason as any!

Though he occasionally seems to sympathize with the zombies somewhat (in one game mode, he helps them with their training), he's typically eager to help you out. The plants he sells you are some of the best in the game: Gatling Peas shoot four peas at one time (and look ridiculously awesome as well) Twin Sunflowers produce more sun than a regular Sunflower, and Cob Cannons can launch insanely powerful missiles at an entire cluster of zombies. He also comes up with inventive ways to knock out the zombies (I.E. bowling), and when you play through Adventure mode a second time, he picks out three different plants for you. This puts an interesting spin on the mode, and you may find yourself using and really liking plants you never typically used before.
Oh, and he has an awesome psuedo-cameo in Left 4 Dead 2, another one of the decade's best games!
Best $1000 ever spent.

Plants vs. Zombies is an amazing game that deserves to be represented in the Character Battle. Dave himself is hilarious, and would look awesome in match pictures. But above all, I'm nominating him...

I'll admit, a few months ago I hadn't heard of PvZ at all. Then the girlfriend of the guy who lives in the room next to me told me about it and how much fun she had with it, so I introduced her to Steam and she made me buy it.
She and I are pretty tight friends now. PvZ brings people together like that.

Dude, that's awesome! Always cool to see people bond over gaming, especially when the game in question is Plants vs. Zombies. :D
Sadly, I haven't been able to convince very many people to try it yet. I have, however, gotten a ton of people hooked on Angry Birds; if that game doesn't make the next Games Contest, I'll be bummed!

I still think Sunflower should be the Character Battle representative, but why not?

As awesome as Sunflower is, I think Dave would have a broader appeal to voters. If you haven't played PVZ, Sunflower might seem sort of bland, I think.
