Here we are, once again continuing the beat a game a day project. Man do topics get purged quickly here. Real life took over me being able to post here at a decent time.

Anyways, just to remind you people what this project is, it is where I beat 1 snes, nes, or black and white game boy game a day, and give my thoughts on the experience, in the form of a few paragraphs, usually 1-3.

It's where I return to the roots of my life that I wanted as a child, where I'd beat a game a day, every day.

I'd also like to encourage others who rarely beat games to just try to beat a game themselves more often, and tell about their experiences in this topic.

The topic works like this. Anyone who wants to participate in this project, try to beat a game in a day, or in your case perhaps, at least quite quickly. It doesn't matter what you play, anything is fine. When you finish it, talk about it here in this topic. Say as much as you want about it, be it a sentence or 2, or a paragraph or more.

Feel free to complete it however you wish, via cheating or otherwise. The idea is to beat it really quickly after all, and just have fun. Like I said before, I'll eventually play Secret of Mana, and there's no way I can beat that game in a day without cheating.

You can play any game on any system. I myself, like I said before will be focusing on NES, SNES, and Black and White Game Boy titles, at least for now anyways. I plan to branch out eventually, but this is what I'm doing for now.

Again, I have merely one request. Feel free to suggest different ways to play certain games, but don't flat out attack someone for the way they play. Let's keep things friendly here.

I'm gonna start things again with last 4 that I meant to post days ago now.

Oh, and if you'd like to see any of the commentaries I've published, check out the link in my sig. Commentaries are generally posted there before they will be posted on this forum.

Anyways, let's do this!

Good luck. I'd say a game every 2 days is more realistic. And you've gotta be playing games that aren't too difficult/aren't too long.

Wow! A game every 2 instead? Right now that feels kinda tempting. That said, that would only be 15 games a month. Next month however, I'd thinking of expanding on things, adding GBA and GENESIS to that list, and aiming for beating 25 games a month, but each in one day still.

Wow....

Game: Contra III: The Alien Wars

System: SNES

Time spent on game: 2 hours

The experience:

This game is...awe inspiring, and some kind of special! In other words, it's awesome.

Like the original Contra itself, the game is quite short, but in the right way where every level feels unique enough, and a review could be done for every level, describing how they all feel so fresh.

What is different from the NES Contra is well...quite a lot. It really takes advantage of the SNES. Just to name a few things, you move a lot faster, you can actually pick up bombs and use them when you want instead of just automatically when you pick them up, and you can have 2 weapons at once, and you only lose the weapon you were currently using when you died, meaning that you can save a weapon for the boss.

Oh, and that's another thing, in at least half of the levels in the game, you fight a LOT of Minibosses. And while some may look similar, I can't remember one that repeated.

It's also got some very unique end of level bosses. From the boss that's in space and opens a door and attacks you in several different ways, to the boss that have to jump on missiles that are shooting at it, and destroy its defenses. The latter has got to be one of the most unique experiences I've seen in a game.

Finally, let me say that unlike the original Contra, there's no stupid curve ball anywhere in the game. There's no boss which will become nearly impossible because you have the wrong weapon. That said, damn the heat seeking missile weapon is overpowered! Made the game really easy!

Overall, I gotta say that this is one of the best action/platformers on the SNES. I recommend this game to anyone who likes the combo of the 2. Yes, it's hard, but it doesn't ever feel cheaply hard. Plus, you start with like 7 or 9 lives, and you'll gain quite a few more if you shoot everything that moves like you should. I gained like 5 lives in one level. Oh, and you can choose the difficulty too, which is awesome!

Man it felt good to play this game again!

RPG: Actraiser

System: SNES

Time spent on the RPG: 4 hours

Cheats used: None. Probably would have taken an hour or so less if I made myself invincible in the side scrolling stages, but eh, the victory feeling so well earned made up for it.

The experience:

Here we are with another special edition of this project. What's so special about it? This time I actually am not wearing any pants. Yes, that's right, I'm not wearing pants at all.

Seriously though, it's the first rpg I've played since I halted the project. It's also the first rpg on this project that I have beaten, several times in fact.

Like Final Fantasy Legends 1, aka SaGa 1, this will contain SPOILERS!

*
*
*

The situation is that a good friend of mine from my childhood had this game, and it eventually became mine. I've beaten this game...I think 3 times. The first time without even using states.

What can I compare this game to? Hmm, I guess Dark Cloud and Soulblazer. Thankfully, like Soulblazer, and unlike Dark Cloud, the game is awesome! Seriously, this game, like Soulblazer shows Dark Cloud how not to suck! It's the same kinda idea. An evil force has destroyed the world, and you need to rebuild it. The difference is that the main villian, who while he never says a word, isn't a cheesy DBZ villain lookalike. There's more of course, and I'll get to it.

Anyways, in the game, you name yourself, and are told by your most loyal ally, who goes by the name as Angel (and is one.) that the world has basically been destroyed by the ultimate evil that you fought long ago. You have been resting for what I assume is at least several hundred years, and now is the time to finally fight back.

Then you're finally able to have some actual interaction. You are given several choices from a menu, but all you really can do that does anything is "Fight Monsters." You're given an awesome little close up scene where you go into a part of the world map, and then you are brought into one of 2 of the games main phases. The game is part side-scroller, and part world builder. Both are immensely fun, and I honestly can't decided which I like more.

In the side scrolling phases, you, the god of this world have your very essence transferred into a statue of a warrior, who in turn becomes human. You then go around slashing up monsters, eventually running into a boss to kill at the end of each level. Basically, it's your standard Side Scrolling levels in a lot of platformer/action games.

Then after you beat the side scrolling level, you are put in what you takes up most of the game, the town building phase. You control Angel, who goes flying around shooting the giant monsters trying to stop your creation of the town. They are your standard enemies, and they include bats, Blue and Red Demons, and Big Giant skulls. Unfortunately, that is literally every type of enemy in the town building part of the game. The bats grab townspeople. The Blue Demons destroy buildings. The Red Demons dry up what I assume are wheat fields. And then there are the Giant Skulls. These buggers, if you leave them alive for long enough, they'll cause an earthquake, taking out everything in most situations. Generally, you want to build the town to where they're able to destroy monster lairs. Each lair destroyed always gets your something, from an item, to the town being able to create better houses. Better houses equals more of a population. More of a population is how you gain your levels, and what truly makes this a quite different action-rpg.

Oh, and your Angel, he's got a unique life system. When he loses all his health, he merely cannot attack with his bow and arrows. Thankfully he regenerates some of his health back every single time the whole TOWN CURRENTLY BUILDING phase. After you've destroyed all of the towns monster lairs, the town elders tell you to go to another side scrolling level, where you take out the main boss monster of the town.

Anyways, you go through about 6 or so towns. They're your basic fantasy rpg areas. They're not particularly bland perse, but they're all really nothing special. Often after beating the main boss monster of the town, you will end up with the town having a certain issue that slows the development of the town, and you end up having to get an item from another town to solve the issue.

Finally, after the 6 or so towns in the game, you go to the final area, an island where you fight all of the main bosses from the other towns. Then you reach the final boss, who like I said earlier, doesn't say a word, and unfortunately is quite a pushover!

The game ends with the angel looking over the towns, summarizing what happened in each, and what the overall results of your actions were by saving them. It also pointed out how no one in each town visits your shrines, as they have no real need for you anymore, and how it makes the Angel sad that they pay no attention to you anymore, but how he's glad that they have gained true independence. He also explains how all of the humans in the game are reincarnations of all the monsters you destroyed.

Bottom Line is this. It's a combination of very good ideas. It's one of the few games that sets out to please everyone, and I'd say that it hit everything right. Too bad the sequel was such a disappointment.

It took a while for me to finally gathered the focus to beat a game again when I played this. Let's get straight to it!

The game: Excitebike

The system: NES

Time spent on the game(rounded up to the highest hour): 1 hour

Let me start off by saying that it's unlikely that I'll play another sports game on this project, so yeah, this is a special exception. It's probably This game is just that much fun...and it's short enough too.

Anyways, this is a very simple side scrolling motorcycle racing game with 2 ways to play the game. There's the Time Trial where you need to complete 5 tracks, and...well, the time trial with other racers involved, which pretends to be a race. Yeah, there are ranks for the races, but honestly, you get 1st-3rd place, or it's game over, and the places at least seem to be seconds apart.

What makes this game so awesome overall? The controls that blow me away for a NES game. both butttons accelerate, but one accelerates faster. The thing is, if you hold it for too long, your bike overheats, and you have to wait5 or so seconds to let it cool down.. Oh, and did I mention that the last 2 levels basically cannot be beaten unless you do them perfectly? Don't worry though, you can select whatever of the 5 levels you want to do at any time.

Bottom Line, I'd probably go so far to say that if you were to play 3 NES games from 1985, they really should be this game, along with Super Mario Bros and Duck Hunt. Chances are you haven't played this game unfortunately, and you should, even if you hate racers. It's that awesome!

Game: Super Castlevania IV

The system: SNES

Time Spent on the game(rounded up to the highest hour) 4 hours

The Experience:

First of all Angry Joe, this game took me under 4 hours. That said, unlike Kane and Lynch 2: Dog Days, this is game is worth playing, and replaying, over and over and over again. Seriously, the replay value of this game is phenomenal!

I chose this game because aside from the Metroidvania Castlevanias, this game is easily the best of the best, both in terms of gameplay and music! This is one of my all time favorite side scrolling action games. In fact, I almost want to say that it is my favorite all time side scrolling action games every time I play through it, or at least the best on the SNES. It's THAT GOOD!

It goes without saying that unlike the first Castlevania game I played via this project,(the Game Boy Castlevania II: Belmont's Revenge.) I knew a lot going in. This game has a lot of nostalgia value for me. This is probably around the 4th time I've replayed it from beginning to end in one sitting, but it's definately the fastest I've ever beaten the game in.

Let's start with the controls, specifically your movement. This game really takes advantage of the fact that it's on the SNES. Unlike Castlevania 1-3 on the NES, the way you move is no longer stiff. You move at the perfect speed. Not too fast, but not too slow. Even jumping around isn't stiff, which is an unbelievably welcome change, something that until I played this game when it came out was something I always assumed I would always have to deal with in this series.

Then we have the way you attack. Once again, the game really takes advantage of the fact that it's no longer limited to NES controls, by far! You no longer have to press up and the attack button to use your item powerup. Instead, you simply press the R button.(Oh, and btw, you can actually customize the controls as well.) Yeah, that's right. You can use your item powerup at any angle! Then we have your whip. I'd say that considering its time, it's one of the most fun and innovative weapons I've used in a game. Basically, you can swing your whip forward, swing it upwards, jump and aim downwards, or hold up, and move left or right and whip diagonally. You can also press the whip button, and hold and move the directional pad around, moving the whip all over the place! And naturally, in half of the levels, you are able to use it to grapple around with certain objects, swinging around and around and around, even hanging from them via the whip. It's just some of the most fun to be had in any game.

And of course the levels. There are oh...I'd say about 10 levels in the game. While some are definately more fun than others, none of them feel remotely repetitive, and the environments are very different in every single level. They all feel like they belong in this game, and it really does really draw you into the fact that you're on your way to Castlevania itself to defeat Dracula, and even once you reach the gates of Castlevania itself, you still have about 5 more levels to complete.

The bosses themselves are something worth bragging about as well. While Most of the bosses are unfortunately quite easy, they're quite different, but all very creepy and fitting for the game. From Frankenstein's Monster, to the Mummy. Plus, this game did something that I wish more games would do. Instead of adding 3 more levels that more than likely might drag the game down a bit, the very last level has you fighting all 4 of the games hardest bosses, all of which are quite different. The first 2 being the Slogra and Gaiben(SP?) bosses in Castlevania: Symphony of the Night(aka the first boss battle you fight as Alucard.). However, they are anything but pushovers this time. Then you fight Drac's right hand man, Death himself. And man is this battle challenging, especially when you're not sure how exactly to fight him. I ended up looking up the strategy for him.

Then finally, you deal with the man of the fated hour, Count Dracula himself. Although he's considerably less challenging than Death, he's still quite challenging. Imagine the battle with Alucard and Dracula in Symphony of the Night, only considerably harder! The big difference is that when you've chipped away about 4/5 or so of his health, he reveals his face as a skeleton, and sparks literally fly all over you! Oh, and did I mention that he changes his attacks about 6 times! Combined with the different music changes all throughout the battle, it makes for an experience that completely draws you in, making you feel like you're destroying the ultimate form of pure darkness!

The Bottom Line is this:

If you haven't experienced this game for yourself, you really need to. Seriously, play the game, NOW! Like I said, it's one of the best SNES titles that has ever been made.

Today's playthrough is something quite different. Not only is it an rpg, but it's the project's first EPIC failure! How is it not just a regular failure like Psycho Dream? Read on.

RPG: Gauntlet

System: NES

Time Spent on the game: 8 hours

I can't believe this. Not only was this the first game which I took 3 breaks on(Still did all of this in 1 day.), it's the first one that I found my way into the last level, and was unable to beat it. Read on to find out why.

Cheats Used: Walk through walls for the last 10 or so levels I played(Had family that really wanted me to stop playing, and I really wanted to just finish the game.)

I loved this game. I say loved because after what happened to me, I'm not sure how I feel about it anymore. It was a very fun game for a very long time, that's for sure.

There are 100 levels in this game, and most of them are quite fun. Basically, it's a 2 player game where you choose between 4 different characters, and go through a bunch of different mazelike dungeons, looking for an exit. Each character you choose from are quite different, with different stats, and even movement speed. I myself always went with the axe throwing warrior when I was young, but now I always go with the arrow shooting elf, who is the fastest, which is quite practical, since in this game, your health goes down by one point every second.

The main goal of course is to get to the 100th room of the games massive dungeon. Thankfully, the levels are rarely random, and when they are random, the only thing random about the levels are the occasional different exits.

What keeps the game from getting repetitive, at least for me is the fact that the levels often change as you progress through the game. From invisible walls, to teleporation. What I don't like about this game is the fact that in a lot of levels later in the game are a bunch of randomized, false exits.

Anyways, onto what stopped me from finishing the game. I reached floor 100, and found out that I had to enter a password which I was supposed to collect letters of to gain access to not automatically die on the final floor, and kill the last boss. Shame really. I knew that there were clues to collect, but I assumed that it was just to get the best ending.

This game royally pissed me off. I put 7 hours and 30 minutes into this game. The most I've put into any game, and for what? To automatically get a game over at the final level because I didn't want to treat this game like an adventure title. Isn't finding my way through most of the mazes in the game good enough to finally face the game's first and only boss? It's ridiculous.

That said, I'm not gonna forget all the fun I had getting up there. Maybe I'll find a save file at the last level sometime in the future. Oh well. This game is spectacular, and everyone with the love of isometric action rpgs with constant action and dungeon crawling should check this game out. Just don't expect to beat it without knowing where the clues are, and that's going to require massive trial and error, or a good walkthrough.

Ok, that's it. Time to play through the last rpg for the month. It's a much beloved classic, and what got me into rpgs. What is it? Check this topic out tomorrow.

Oh yeah I forgot one more thing.

Ok, I'm a bit behind, but I've now posted every commentary that I plan to release on the link in my sig, so check that out if you wish.

Game: Final Fantasy II(US)

System: SNES

Time spent on the game: 6 hours.

Cheats used: A LOT(see this games post in the forum for all of them.)

I was gonna spoil the entire game, but you know what? This isn't FFLegend1. The game is great the whole time, and not just in the last 4/5. Seriously, if you haven't played this, and you want to play a pure classic medievil rpg, which happens to be the first Final Fantasy title that started the uber awesome battle system similar to FFV-IX, check this game out. I'm gonna purposefully not give any plot details out that are after the game's Star Wars style intro early in the game.

Let me start off by saying that I cheated in this game worse than any other I did in the original Final Fantasy Legend, so take that for however you will, but know that I make no apologies. If you want all the details, check out the commentary of this game in the link in my sig.

Anyways, this game is probably my most nostalgic game of all time. I rented this game in 93 or so, and it introduced me to...well, the thing that made RPGs my favorite genre. The fact that there's so much to read. I spent an hour going through the intro, reading everything out loud. Then when Kain and Cecil leave Baron Castle in the morning, and the Star Wars style intro explaining what's going on in the game...dear god.

You know what? I'm saying it right now. The music that plays during the Star Wars style intro, it is literally my most memorable theme of anything ever, not just in video games, but everything I've ever heard. Second only to...well, one of the themes in The Fellowship of the Ring, which to me is merely the first 3 and half hours of what is the longest movie ever made, and at the same time best movie ever made. (Oh, and I REFUSE to watch the non- extended edition.)

Ok, so I went through several "versions" of this game, mainly trying to get the game genie codes that I used to work. Spent probably an hour and half doing so, before finally going with the original US version, titled Final Fantasy II.

I put in the codes, and I started the game. The intro is so awesome, with a group airships going around the world being the first thing that you see, it after a few seconds showing you your main character, Cecil the Dark Knight, and his crew of the Red Wings. They are complaining over what they had just done. They have gone to the town of mysidia(SP?), and taken their crystal, which none of your crew has any idea why your King wants it. After a couple automated battles, showing off a couple of the SNES's at the time very great looking spell effects, you talk with your crew for a bit more, and arrive at Baron Castle.

The game automatically has you have conversations with the captain of the guard, and automatically has you walk with him to the king. Eventually you end up asking the king why he asked you to do what you had just done, and he hates that you dare to question him, You are relieved of your role as captain of the red wings airship, and are given one more task by his majesty. You are to leave immediately tomorrow morning, and take out a monster in the nearby cave of mist, and to deliver a package to the nearby village as well. Your best friend, the Dragoon named Kain comes in, asking what you have done. His majesty decides that Kain will go with you, and Cecil and Kain are forced outside of the throne room. Cecil apologizes, and you talk for a bit before Kain takes off, to prepare for tomorrow. From here, you are able to walk around about...maybe 2/3 of the whole castle or so.

There are a lot of people to talk to, including Cecil's childhood sweetheart, Rosa, the White Mage. I was completely in love with her from 93 to 99 or so. She just seemed like the sweetest character ever put in a game. Eventually you make your way to your room, and she visits you, and she tells you that she knows you. She tells you that you're not a coward, and that she knows that you'll do the right thing.

The next day, you leave the castle with Kain, and the Star Wars style intro plays.

The game had me super excited every second that I played it years ago, and even now, I loved every single second of of the 6 hours that I played it a couple hours later as I type this. Yes, the game is generic, but outside of the Final Fantasy universe, only a few games have a similar battle system. This is the first active turn based Final Fantasy, and man is it an awesome beginning!

Well, I guess that's more than enough. Seriously, if you haven't played this, you really need to check it out. Again, if you want to know what cheats I used to beat the game in around 6 hours, check out the link in my sig.

Up tomorrow: The game which I consider to be the first Metroidvania title.

The game: Addam's Family, The

The System: SNES

Time spent on the game(rounded up to the highest hour): 2 hours

Cheats used: Invulnerability

The experience:

Here we are, finally beating a game again after so freakin long.

I won't go into why I chose this game here, as it's sort of a long story. If you want to know the reason behind it, check out my expanded version of this commentary on the board in my signature.

Anyways, this game is...well, one of the best side scrolling platformers I've ever played. It's basically Metroidvania, sans the fact that you jump on everything, with the ability to get weapons which you lose when you get hit, ala Super Mario Bros 3. You could say that's unoriginal, but then again, this game was made by Konami, so that's not entirely true. Plus, I say that originality is just forgetting where you stole your ideas from, and there's nothing wrong with copying something, as long as the end results is still something worth experiencing.

The way this game is Metroidvania is because of the way you access all of the levels in the game. You start in a room with stairs and a bunch of doors. Inside most of the doors are branching paths, making up different rooms of the Addams Family Mansion. Most of the rooms are quite unique, given their own name and everything. All of the rooms have their names listed at the top of the screen, which is great both because it's a great way to keep track if you're walking in circles or not, and The goal is to find your way to the boss of the area, and beat that boss, which results in either an extra heart ala the Zelda series, or the saving of a family member. Both of which result in the game giving you real simple 4 letter password.

Once you save all of the family members except for Morticia, you can head to the room in the beginning of the game that leads to where Lurch is playing the piano, and the way is cleared, leading to the final sets of levels. Once you beat the final boss, you're treated to an ending which shows off the game designers, in Addams family style portraits, which is beyond beautifully artistic.

Anyways, I went on way too long with this. I have more to say, but once again, if you want to read it, check out the post in the A View to a Kill forum.

My bottom line is that if the unique areas, and fun, yet extremely challenging platforming isn't reason enough to play a game like this, then those along with the music of this game should be.

Up tomorrow: Another 2 parter, where I cover the project's first Disney game, and another game that I covered in the Daily NES project.

The Game: Magical Quest, Starring Micky Mouse

The System: SNES

Time Spent on the Game: 2 Hours

The Experience:

Gonna make this one quick.

Ah, Magical Quest, a game I played for like 10 minutes when I was MUCH younger in a store, and haven't played since until now. I watched a playthrough of the game a few years ago on youtube though.

I kinda delayed playing this game for a while, as I have up until now have been under the impression that it's something that requires a lot of focused conservation of your powers just to survive. Man was I off!

Honestly, the game is a lot of fun. Basically, you're Micky, going around in 6 different locations trying to save Pluto. Along the way, you are given 3 different suits, similar to Megaman. Again, this is not a rip off, as Capcom themselves made this game. This game is one of capcom's many awesome Disney games.

Anyways, like Megaman, you use these suits for different bosses, or for different results in the environment. There's the magic suit, which lets you blast your enemies. There's the fireman suit, which puts out fires, stuns, and eventually kills enemies. And there's the...I think it might be called Hiking Suit, but anyways, it's basically a grapple used for climbing. All are quite fun.

The last boss is a giant version of Pete, Who you have to keep jumping up and blasting with your magic or hose to take him out. The ending is quite unexpected, yet heartwarming.

The bottom line is this. It's got somewhat overly cute with lines like "Don't worry Pluto, I'll save you. Besides, I'm worrien' enough for the both of us," but if you can get past that, you'll have a really fun Megaman-like Disney game. Oh, and by the way, the bosses are quite challenging at first too, and require a minor bit of memorization.

Up next: The last NES game for the month. One of the few modern day based isometric shooters.

Now for something quite obscure. Something that isn't as well known. Something that is the last NES game that I have planned for at the moment.

Oh, and to clarify things. I'm not cutting off NES games from the rest of the project, there just won't be any more till next month.

Game: Commando

System: NES

Time spent on the game: 19 minutes and 6 seconds(Like Popeye and Donkey Kong, I'm giving an exact time since it's so short.)

I'm gonna make this real short game's commentary quick.

This game, if you play it the way I just did as I type this down pure fun, and just enough challenge.

Basically, you go through a set of 4 levels, where you're a army man,(who if I remember reading years ago in some magazine is named Bazooka Joe.) and you go around shooting other army men in a top down non-auto scrolling shooter. Along the way you'll also come across what at least seem to be indestrucable vehicles which try to kill you as well.

At the end of each level is a militarty fortress, which you must kill all army men that show up around it. Do this, and you beat the level. At the 4th level, you blow up the fortress, beating the game as you are taken away via a helicopter, and put on the next difficulty.

Is the game special? Absolutely not, but it is quite fun. Something great to play when you're bored.

Again, I have a small amount more to say, but I'll save it for the forum in the link in my sig.

Ok, now for the last B&W Game Boy title for the month, and The Project's first Mario title(that I've published.)

Game: Super Mario Land

System: NES

Time spent on the game: 1 hour

Cheats used: None!

God this game is underrated!

First of all, let me say that I played, the color and graphics edition, version 3.0. If I remember correctly, this is the first game I've played on this project that doesn't use the official version.

Anyways, this game just has a lot to offer that the NES version doesn't. For one, you can actually pick up coins with your shots of...well, I'm not sure what you shoot in this game, but it's definitely not your SMB1 fire attack, as it reflects all over the place, and is actually colored blue.

Anyways, I made my way through to level 4-3, and encountered some serious glitches(which were probably due to this being a modified version). The cloud boss before the final one...well when you kill it, all that would happen was a regular, unkillable koopa would show up. after reloading a state a few times, eventually the last boss. Yeah, Bowser has nothing to do with the Black and White Game Boy Mario titles.

The last boss is an alien named (Tatanga, if memory serves me right.)actually showed up. He sure took a a while to take out with Mario in his fighter space ship, and I honestly, didn't realize that he even was the last boss. I thought that there were 2 other levels. The game ends with you finding the real Daisy(yeah, this is the first game which features Daisy if I recall correctly. Donkey Kong has Pauline.), as you escape with her in a spaceship, with the area behind you exploding as the credits roll.

Quite satisfying I'd say, even if it is a bit too short. I have a small amount more to say, but I'll save it for the board in my sig.

Up tomorrow: We end this month with my childhood best friend's favorite game.

Here we are, the final game for the month. Let's get straight to it!

This game so *several expletives deleted* awesome!

Game: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles IV: Turtles in Time

System: SNES

Time spent on game: 59 minutes

Cheats used: Infinite Lives(to give the game a Multiple Arcade Machine Engine feel.)

Difficulty played on: Hard(which I actually find the easiest when playing with 2 players, since you have 5 continues each.)

God, this game is so awesome! To me, it's the last great TMNT beat em up! Good ol Konami just made so many awesome action titles, and even today they haven't stopped. They're one of my all time favorite game companies.

Anyways, I'll stop myself before going off a too big rant on how awesome Konami is, and focus on my experience of this game. Let me just say that this was my childhood best friend's favorite game, and when I knew him, it was my favorite game as well.

Ok, so I chose Donatello as my turtle of choice. I've always loved his range, and I always liked him because of the fact that he was the smart one in the cartoon and movies. I also remember people always mentioning in the arcades that he was the one that's best against bosses.

So I go through the first level, which is easily beatable without losing a life. The boss that's the human fly known as Baxter Stockman was quite easy, and I love how he kills himself by falling off the bridge once you beat him. It's one of my earliest moments as a gamer where suicide is involved.

The Second level, I lost a life fighting the robot turtle boss with the catchphrase "I"m gonna mangle you slimeballs!"

The Third level, aka the games first of 2 bonus levels, I somehow went through without losing more than one life. The whole "My toes! My toes!" is alway priceless, and man is the rat king boss fun to fight. "First the sewers, then the world!"

The Fourth level, aka the technondrome level. Fun level where you fight Tokah(SP?) and Razar(sp?) halfway through it, with their famous movie quote "Master said that we should have fun!" "Fun!" I always found the battle to be a joke, but then again, even in the movie that's what they were. Eventually you make it to the real boss, shredder in a giant machine. To beat him, you actually have to throw foot soldiers at him. Yeah, this is one of the uber rare games where you get to throw enemies at the screen. I remember as a kid I couldn't really pull this off, so when I played with my best friend, he'd do the throwing, while I did my best to do crowd control, making sure that there weren't too many soldiers overwhelming us. At the end, Shredder decides that since he can't kill you after 3 games, he'll get you out of the way, by sending you through time.

Fifth level, you're in the time of the dinosaurs, with Foot soldiers even riding them. The boss of the level, Slash is quite the different type of boss. He's a turtle like you, with a shell, but you have to attack him from the back, as he parries with his sword if you attack him from the front. Love how he himself commits suicide, via jumping in a volcano.

Sixth Level, which is the Age of Pirates. While I was disappointed to see Bebop and Rocksteady them without firearms, it's always funny to see them kill each other when they're low on life.

Seventh level, the Western Era, on a train. Love fighting Leatherhead, with his quote that is something about fresh turtles for lunch. He has quite the interesting attack of getting on all 4 legs, and charges at you. I don't entirely recall what happens to him when you beat him, but I think that he falls off the train.

8th level, in the future, when you're on some futuristic skateboard or something like it. It was my childhood friend's favorite level, thanks to the music. I always had trouble with Super Krang as a kid, but I only lost 1 life fighting him this time.

9th level, where you're at the futuristic technodrome. In the end is Krang in a ufo type ship, where he tries to use to smash you. You kill him, and you find the portal that sends you back to your own time.

Now for the final level, where you face Super Shredder. Seeing him transform, along with the small tune that plays as he transforms is so awesome, as it lets you know that you're about to fight something quite powerful. And man does he back up his intro with power. He has a move where he shoots out a beam which turns you back to a regular turtle. The way your turtle reacts he does this to you is honestly one of the funniest things I've ever seen. with the eyes bulging out and everything. When you finally take Shredder's lifebar out, he gets all dizzy, and falls off the bridge you were fighting him on, and you have beaten the game. According to my childhood best friend, he actually dies in this game, and I guess that's why he's not in the sequel, Tournament Fighters.

You return the Statue of Liberty that Super Krang stole, via the turtles blimp, and the credits play. Afterwards, Splinter tells the turtles that he he is very proud of them, and the turtles give the whole "Cowabunga!" and the game truly ends by telling you how much time you spent beating the game. Even though my timer said about 59 minutes, the game claims I took about 34 minutes, odd.

Wow, I did it, I actually finished this months amount of games. Time to to play games that were made a while after what I've been playing up to this point, along with some Game Boy Advance titles as well. Till then!
