I...was just reading a topic over at wrestlecrap, about the Rock vs Cena war and how people are taking sides. I felt like it was silly to support Cena and etc.

A guy who is obviously going over vs. a guy who hasn't had a match in years and probably won't appear on multiple consecutive RAWs until 2012 is the reason I don't care about the Rock/Cena stuff. <_<

Well yeah, that's sort of implied in that too.

Rock's just coming back just to fill the Hogan role from WM18. But instead of that build being a solid two months like it was back then, they're watering it down to fill an entire year. Nothing good will come from all this.

I mean, hindsight aside, CM Punk's promo last week wasn't even the most incredible show-ending promo on Raw this year, even basing on "how much are people loving this" at the time they were happening.

I dunno, I just think people expect too much sometimes.

What was the last angle from any company (WWE, TNA, WCW, late-era ECW) with a WWE-esque structure (weekly shows building to monthly megacard) that had build that truly delivered in the end? Possibly Jericho vs. Michaels?

Either the format just doesn't lend itself well to that sort of thing, or else the entire industry is just incompetent at it, or possibly in this day and age with so many more fans bouncing ideas and opinions off of each other constantly it really dilutes the effect of anything that's not world-shattering like Punk's promo.

i personally would be down with one ppv every two months

one important tv show paired with one superstars-type tv show every week

also a rotating schedule for talent

guys have a few months in, and a few months out

keep the rotations mixed up so it doesn't get too predictable

wwe is dumb because they keep all their talent exposed to the public all the time nonstop

they only stop for injuries and veterans who have the tenure to ask for time off without risking their spot

edit also it would probably lessen injuries and guys would have end up having more years in them also maybe they wouldn't get addicted to painkillers and steroids?????

I've always been more of a fan of just having WWE shut down for 6 weeks every year between Thanksgiving and New Year's, roughly.

Do Survivor Series and then TV the week after to set up some cliffhangers, then after the SD tapings that Tuesday everyone gets sent home until whatever the first Monday of the new year is for Raw.

Unless they want to go on the completely voluntary Tribute to the Troops tour/show for a week in December, and maybe have certain guys come in to film bumper footage for the "Best Of" shows that would be airing in the interim.

Here's even a rough outline of how I'd fill that gap:

No NXT or Superstars during any of this. Internationally those timeslots would just be filled with edited clips of that week's other stuff.

Week One would be that final week of TV Tapings they do right after Survivor Series

Week Two would be an end-of-season recap and analysis, featuring Roundtable discussion from people like Striker and Josh and JR (kinda like Prime Time Wrestling used to be) and exit interviews from various Superstars about whatever cliffhanger angle they have going on.

Week Three would be the Slammy Awards, with an arena setup kinda like the Hall of Fame. Mandatory attendance but no matches. Just re-run it on SD.

Week Four would have Raw and SD each be dedicated to highlights from the past year for whoever were voted the Raw and SD Superstars of the Year at the Slammys, respectively.

Week Five would be Tribute to the Troops, preferably filming 2 shows (one for the Raw timeslot and one for the SD timeslot), but if that's not possible just re-run it.

Week Six would be a countdown spread out over Raw and SD featuring the Top Ten Matches of the Year, in their entirety (but with commercial breaks) if possible, as voted on by the fans at WWE.com.

WCW managed to keep the build for Sting vs. Hogan hot for something like 18 months despite Sting not being an in-ring competitor (like The Rock).

Of course, they fumbled the ball at the goal line, but at least they got there. WWE went 3 and out.

There were still huge chunks of time during that build where Hogan was absent!

Even though in both that situation and this situation we know who's gonna win in the end, I think the difference is that Sting really created an awesome gimmick, and fans genuinely WANTED him to kick Hogan's ass, even with the nWo finding themselves more popular than WCW in general.

Cena is, by contrast, not quite as universally popular as a face, and a lot of people are NOT looking forward to him winning, so therefore I'm not sure that any sort of build they could do would be viewed well.

Personally I prefer Cena as Champion fending off increasingly bigger heel threats trying to dethrone him over Cena as driven contender searching for the title over a 6-month span but somehow having it constantly elude his grasp until he finally reaches it.

Also a factor is that, even if we kinda guessed, Hogan vs. Sting actually being booked was never set in stone until close to Starrcade. There was always that "When will this finally happen?" tension.

The problem with Cena/Rock is that we KNOW the date, and it's so far away that nothing happening right now really matters that much with regard to it, unless they REALLY wanted to hammer home "Cena's quest to walk into WM as Champion" which would really bury everyone else even moreso than usual after a Cena feud.

In what sense though?

We don't know anything else that might be happening on the card underneath that superfight, and we don't even know if that fight will even end up being for the title or not.

I'm 90% sure that it won't be but I just went 0-7 on predix last Sunday so what do I know.

What I think they need to do is in the meantime they need to have Rock bring in some guys to mess up Cena for him while he is away. Kinda like a smaller Nexus or Nation or something who are just there to slow Cena down. Mason Ryan will be a good step after the Punk stuff. Batista would be ideal but he is small and doing MMA right now. Someone like Lashley would be good, but again not around. I think the best thing that could happen for WWE would have Joe somehow end up away from TNA and sign him as one of Rock's cousins and have him take Cena to the limit
