The Boss Ricky Ross. Rick Ross makes this list for his refusal to quit the facade he has so cleverly built for himself. Rick Ross entered the game with a Drug Kingpin persona and the Miami credentials to back him up. Even after 50 Cent exposed him as a former Parole Officer, Rick Ross refused to fall.

The best parts about Rick Ross are

1.He can actually put together a solid verse every now and again.
2.We're no longer sure if he wants us to believe he is this Kingpin or if he himself actually believes it nowadays.

Either way it makes for interesting music.

Jay Electronica just has to do everything different and better than everyone else. While other people sample songs he samples movies and the opening for Renaissance Man uses Neo's speech at the end of the Matrix to perfection. Right off the bat you know where this song is headed; the industry is the Agent and Jay is here to expose them to the World.

What makes this song and Jay Electronica in general so dope is the ability to mix double entendres(sp) and clever metaphors together while still making a song you can bump in your car.

Drake's a good artist and certainly a better rapper than a few mentioned in this topic so far. Dude gets a lot of unwarranted hate in my opinion.

Oh, and the lack of Raekwon in this topic so far is disappointing.

Drake gets so much unnecessary hate.

His debut mixtape might be one of the 3 biggest...hell, who are we kidding, his debut mixtape IS the biggest mixtape of the modern era. It got him chased by every major label, got him signed by the biggest rapper of the time, and was good they repacked it and people PAID for a free mixtape.

Then his debut album is one of the 10 best albums of the year and people STILL complain about the guy. I don't get it.

What makes Drake so good is his smooth flow. He's the SECOND best R&B slash Hip Hop combiner in Canada don't cha know! And while rap has always been extremely personal, Drake takes it a step further; his songs tell stories, letting you into the intimate details most rappers rarely let on. Does it hurt that he raps about double pump lattes and ****? Not at all.


This guy takes you through every single detail of his life: from his adoration of guys like Wayne and Jay-Z to the clothes he wears on flights. As with most rappers, Drake is confident enough to believe every intimate detail of his life is worth mentioning, but unlike most rappers, Drake's life is not only that much fun but he's self aware enough to recollect it with charismatic completion.

Tech Nine just isn't one of the ten best rappers alive right.

You can't even say it's because he's "underground" because people still talk and bump MF Doom everywhere I go.

P.O.S can still generate a buzz and make music that can be enjoyed by a mass audience.


He doesn't have the charisma of the Drakes and Rick Rosses
He doesn't have the elite skills of the Eminems and Jay-Zs
He doesn't have the massive buzz and raw talents of the Jay Elecs and Earl Sweatshirts.

Tech has a cult following; a small legion of extremely dedicated fans. But he can't touch this Top Ten.

Tech isn't even underground anymore. He hasn't become absurdly popular or anything, but he's definitely not underground. Tech pretty much has the best flow in the entire genre.

So Far Gone wasn't his first mixtape, he actually had two before that - Room For Improvement in 2006 and Comeback Season in 2007, both of which are quite good and contain some of his best songs.

I personally put this dude on in the West Coast...or at least that's what it feels like in my head. I've been hyping Big Sean for 3 years and he's finally made a name for himself.

For those that don't know who Big Sean is let me throw down some bullet points

-Did you listen to Drake's verse on "Forever" and wonder where he got that "Brown...Nino" style flow from? Drake and every other rapper alive stole it from Big Sean.

-He got signed by spitting 100 bars for Kanye at a radio station.

-His mixtapes are significantly better than his album. His album isn't bad by any means, it's just above average whereas his mixtapes are top tier stuff.

-He has some of the catchiest and cleverest rhymes in the game right now. "Even without Cane I was always Able".

I don't think he'll ever rise higher than 8 though. I feel like he has hit his peak already. This isn't a bad thing, not everyone can be a star.
