How to work it out while still within Jeff Zero's guidelines...

N64 vs. GameCube
Super Mario 64 > Super Mario Sunshine
The Wind Waker > Majora's Mask > Ocarina of Time
Melee > Smash 64
Resident Evil 4 kills everything else on the N64
GameCube wins

N64 vs. Wii
Super Mario Galaxy 2 > Super Mario Galaxy > Super Mario 64
Twilight Princess > Majora's Mask > Ocarina of Time
Brawl > Smash 64
Resident Evil 4 kills everything else on the Wii
Wii wins

GameCube vs. Wii
Super Mario Galaxy 2 > Super Mario Galaxy > Super Mario Sunshine
The Wind Waker > Twilight Princess
Melee > Brawl
Resident...yeah.
Wii wins

It's weird that LMS is being so serious with his system rankings when he's hardly played much from any system. >_>

Your lists leave out soooo of what I like about each of those systems.

LMS obviously believes that only comparing what are considered the best games according to video game lists is the only basis for console worth.

If it didn't make a good video game list, it's worthless.

Then you're obviously not going into the right topics.

Heck, we just had a "Mario 3 vs. Mario World" topic yesterday!

Neither of those games were released in the last 20 years, is my point.

Yes, you may now officially begin to feel old!

Mario World was released 20 years ago!

And people talk about Yoshi's Island quite a bit.

Too much, in fact.

But nobody should be talking about the NSMB games because they're not that great.

Mario World is 21 years ago. *checks* ... in Japan. Just under 20 in NA, okay. Still, you get my point!

Obviously I am not on board with this NSMB hate. I find it bizarre and haven't really seen it anywhere but GameFAQs. I've certainly seen the 2D Marios thought of as -the- DS game and -the- Wii game respectively (and the sales kinda back this up), even if I don't quite personally go that far.

(My own personal ranking has 3 > both NSMB games > World, but I dunno how much of that is tainted by nostalgia. I can't see any way to argue that all four games aren't very well designed, regardless.)

NSMBWii is fine to play with friends.

NSMBDS rubs me the wrong way. It feels soulless. I am a lover of platformers everywhere, and I couldn't finish it.

I heard that! :P

Also, I personally loved NSMBWii. Single-player or multiplayer, I think it's an absolute blast - the level designs are superb! I do agree, though, that NSMBDS felt very by-the-numbers. I really regret paying full price for it.

Haven't played RE2 yet (but I sure hope to do so in a few months), but it's going to be difficult for any game to beat RE4 for me.

The games I mentioned in my comparison were the best games on their systems.

Implying that RE2 isn't one of the best games on the system.

Well the main reason why I wanted to play RE2 is because I wanted more Leon Kennedy.

Okay, those were my favorite games on their respective systems, whatever. It's difficult for me to see anything beating those out though.

I know, I just had to mess with ya a bit!

LMS's emphasis on "committee opinions" depresses me a little. I'm not some crazy hipster who'd take Superman 64 over OoT... but nonetheless, some of the funnest gaming experiences of my life have been with games that most people don't especially care for. Contact is one of my top ten favorite games ever, Yoshi Touch and Go is one of my favorite DS games, I love the Sega Game Gear, etc.

Point is, if you stick to a strictly "triple-A game" diet, I think you miss a lot of what gaming has to offer - most notably, the element of surprise. Everybody knows Resident Evil 4 is going to be awesome before they play it, but few expect to be bowled over by the Shinobi IIIs and Mole Manias of the world, and experiences like those are always really memorable.

Well I went into Twilight Princess expecting overrated trash, and went into Ocarina of Time expecting the best game ever. Guess which one I prefer now. Oh wait, I already revealed it. Whatever.
