Well, if you consider the first three their own trilogy, since it seems like they're going to make a second trilogy starting with On Stranger Tides.

The Lion King is technically a trilogy. So that. In fact, every hand-animated children's movie that spawned two spinoffs including but not limited to: Aladdin, The Little Mermaid, Balto, All Dogs go to Heaven, and The Lion King... safe bet the first was the best.

Aladdin is certainly a trilogy. I could see you arguing against the other ones, but Aladdin isn't even close to not being a trilogy.

To be blunt, most movies.

Books...it depends. Books are rarely trilogies anyway.

If it's a new author who isn't sure she will ever get anything published after this...usually the first book is the worst, actually, because she's still finding her writing style.

If it's an established author confident in getting all three books published, and who just happens to plan a trilogy, it...actually probably still tends to be the third book that's the best (no cliffhangers, the big climax) though it can sometimes be the first just due to the nature of the story (His Dark Materials).

We must read different books. I mostly read fantasy and there are tons of trilogies.

There are only two ways I could see you not counting Aladdin as a trilogy.

1. You count the TV series as a fourth entry, in which case you would have to count the extended universe/spinoffs for everything ever, leaving very few actual trilogies.

2. You're of the mindset that Disney sequels don't exist, in which case I'd usually agree with you but the Aladdin ones were actually pretty decent.

Lol

Might as well take it one step further and say they don't exist!

Anyway adding

Millennium trilogy
Matrix (duh)
PotC
LotR - though really, I could see someone easily making a case for RotK or even TT (though not as easily) as the best in the series. Really not a weak link in LotR imo.

Yeah. Basically. For me, it's RotK > FotR > TT but it's pretty close.

A lot of what I would have said has already been covered. Shoot. I'll ponder some more.
