The sock thing was a joke but basically I'm going in for training tomorrow for six hours and they said to dress casual. But it's hot and I want to wear shorts.

Don't wear shorts if it's a job. Or at least ask first.

At my job business casual is khakis and up with a shirt with a collar. My department relaxes it to jeans with a collar but shorts are a definite no go no matter where/when.
