Are any of you guys garage sale hunters? If so, I'd appreciate any advice (if such a thing as garage sale advice exists). The guy says he'll start at 6:30, but look at what he's letting go - this is a treasure trove of stuff that nerds will camp for. Should I get there earlier? I spoke to him over the phone about the games. He says he wants to sell the older NES/GB stuff in one bulk sale, and he'll probably let the PS2/Xbox games go for $1-2 apiece. That's pretty enticing, but I know gamers are the ones who flock to this stuff first. I should get there not one minute past 6:30, methinks.

My dad has decided to part with a lot of things he has held on to for the last 50 years. We are trying to raise money for vacation to visit all the baseball parks all around California.

Checked it out. They did have a ton of stuff for sale, but stuff like old action figures and comics books and junk... well, they might seem more appealing on paper than after you take a look at them. Still, he had some games. It wasn't a great haul, but he was selling NES games for a dollar each. I'm sure better deals are available out there, but I didn't mind $1 a pop to increase my collection. I got the following (all NES):
Super Mario Bros./Duck Hunt Tetris Ms. Pac-Man (x2) Silver Surfer (AVGN!) Batman (AVGN!) Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III: The Manhattan Project John Elway's Quarterback
Also picked up a Chicago Bulls beer glass and Yosemite Sam plushie for a buck each. He had some other games on hand, including a Japanese Pokemon Silver, Tetris for Game Boy, Wario Land for GB (or GBC), and Lion King for GB. I was interested, but he was asking $2 for those so I was gunshy. Maybe you guys can tell me if the JPN Pokemon is worth it. He also had some other NES games, but they didn't look as good as the ones I picked up. He said he had more games that weren't with him, including N64 and 360 stuff, so I gave him my number if he wanted to sell later.
There were 3000+ comics on sale, but the guy was asking for way too much ($1 each unless buying in bulk). Comics just don't have that kind of value. I remember visiting a comic shop when they were liquidating, and they were letting five go for a buck. He also had tons of Star Wars stuff on hand, but most were from the prequel trilogy, so I didn't care. Might go back if I have a sudden rush to scoop up the rest of the games.

Every garage sale I've been too has been mostly junk, except for a TV I bought for like 20 dollars awhile back. They even drove it to my apartment for me.

Wish I were a comic connoisseur then. Since he's got such a big collection, I'm assuming at least a few of them are old. I simply don't have the time or knowledge to look through, though.

I'd assume most of them are old given his age. Late 70s - late 80s. Even if there's nothing of resale value, he probably has a few great runs I wouldn't mind owning.
Went to that same sale this morning. They had a couple more stuff out. Most notable was Mario 3. Here's what I got:
Super Mario Bros. 3 - $3 Kirby's Dream Land - $2 Pokemon Silver (JPN import) - $2
I went to another sale a mile away. The main seller was a young gaming nerd, so he had some decent stuff on hand. Picked up:
Legend of Dragoon - $1 Mega Man 8 - $1 Jak & Daxter - $1
This guy was was selling stuff for cheap, so much so that his crazy grandma was wondering if he was underselling. He has a mini PSOne for $10. It looks in great condition and I thought about biting, but eh, my PS2 serves as a perfect PS1.
All in all, considering these were my first garage sales in years, I'd consider them a success. Still hoping to hit that gaming bounty one day, though.

I didn't see the Rose jersey. Assumed he was keeping it inside for people who asked. He probably did the same with the war gear since I didn't see that or ask. That stuff woulda been way too expensive for me anyway.
