The fighting genre as a whole as declined a lot in the past decade. A few gems come out, but it's easily a genre that is feeling the effects of limitations within it's own play styles.

you dont consider those to be good fighting games Shake? you think MK is a superior series?

I think it is a logical conclusion to come to that if the first 8 games in the series suck, well, why not have reservations about the latest one? explain how that is illogical please.

Soul Calibur has been in decline after 2. SC2 is often held in acclaim to be one of the best 3D fighters made, but a lot of people have gripes with things they've done in 3 and 4.

Virtua Fighter is a mixed bag. Gameplay wise, it's pretty solid, but it does not really have that flare other fighters tend to offer.

Also do you prefer something like Tekken where you have to string together insane sequences? Because it's basically the opposite end of what Mortal Kombat is.

The fighting game genre has been on an incline since SF4. Of course I find this whole "fighting games are the ugly ducklings of gaming" VERY weird.

Yeah, MK9 is great. I probably like it more than MvC3, which I liked quite a bit, but not as much as Guilty Gear. Here's hoping we actually get X3 this gen. On a related note, Fatalities are a really fun gameplay element. You've won the match, now pull off a slightly tricky button sequence just to show off.

I thought Deadly Alliance was a great game. The Krypt was one of the best things in gaming up to that point.
