I don't know what the hell GFAQs did before they got a mobile site up and running, but it was literally the only site that didn't fit to width on my phone. I use the internet on my phone a lot so I'm glad that they've finally decided to enter the present.

Edit: I use Opera Mini.

Also I'm using an HTC Hero which is absolutely awful. I went in to get an Evo a month after it came out and they didn't have any so I took the next "best" phone. Worst decision ever.

The mobile site works great on my Optimus V with the stock Android browser. And it's a budget Android phone! $150 with no contract!

Just saying.

Eeek. Poor guy. I was thinking of getting that phone 2 years ago when it was the best thing on the market. Then I just kept my ****ty phone for another two years and got a new one a couple months ago.

But yeah, the mobile site is terrible, as are all mobile sites these days. Once you have a phone with enough resolution to load regular web pages (speed is not a problem anymore, and neither is flash) getting automatically redirected to mobile sites gets really, really annoying.

Can't you just use the App? I like the App more than the actual website for most things. Same with Twitter.

I hope you're joking. The iPhone is still one of the most popular phones, and it does not have Flash.

Several Android phones also do not have Flash. Mine, for example. Granted, it is a budget phone, but until Flash is on the vast majority of all smartphones, I wouldn't call it "not a problem."

It's a problem for a lot of the phones people are using now, but I meant that everything coming out later will load flash without problems, as do any of the higher-end phones coming out now.

I don't know about the iPhone 5 though. Personally I think the phone would be kind of a joke if they kept ignoring Flash content.

I have flash on my phone, but I had to manually update my phone software, which thankfully was not very difficult. Even then, if flash stuff is not optimized for mobile use, then it's going to run like crap.

Fair enough. I wouldn't expect all new phones to have Flash capabilities for at least a year or two, though. Android phones recently started to go into the budget market, particularly with Virgin Mobile, MetroPCS, and Boost Mobile.

I don't know about the iPhone 5 though. Personally I think the phone would be kind of a joke if they kept ignoring Flash content.

I can almost guarantee that Apple will not be putting Flash on their iPhone (or iAnything) anytime soon. Apple and Adobe have been in a corporate fight for some time now. Apple is pushing some new web standards over proprietary things like Flash. I've been semi-following this fight for a while (not as much as I should, though), and I've been pretty amused by it.

I guess it depends on what you have. I'll admit I only have a lot of experience with my current phone, but nearly everything seems to run as it would on a computer. Hell, I don't even use my computer anymore, unless I need to use a program that's specific to computers. I don't think it will be very long before this becomes the norm.

Heh... true. I still can't believe they jumped 10% in market share over the last quarter. Incredible.

Well, Android has made smartphones much more accessible and affordable to people. You have them on every major carrier, and even if you want one on a budget, you can do that. I pay $25 a month for my Android phone (Optimus V) which includes 300 minutes and unlimited text/data. In fact, the Optimus V was sold out a lot this year, to the point where price increases were necessary because it was still sold out a month or two after release.

The iPhone, meanwhile, still requires a big contract. iPhones are relatively expensive, and offer little choice. People like choice that goes beyond "AT&T or Verizon" and "iPhone 4 or 3GS" (on AT&T, anyway). There are dozens, if not hundreds of Android phones for every need.

Blackberry strikes me as an Apple, but with much more variety. They are still seen as business phones, though, and just couldn't gain the popularity of iPhone or become as widespread as Android.

I have to say, Google is very smart with how they've managed Android so far.

To be fair, I think the carriers in the US are paying Apple huge money to stay exclusive. In Canada you can get an iPhone with any of the major carriers, and most of the smaller carriers with a variety of contracts. But yeah, there really isn't any "budget" option for iPhones unless you want to sign a contract. In which case they become pretty damn cheap for the hardware you're getting.

Hardware yes, but not service. In the US, it can cost a few thousand dollars over the course of two years to have an iPhone. That's a lot.

http://www.steamenginefinancialcoaching.com/2011/02/14/the-real-cost-of-ownership-iphone-4/

It can cost up to $3,600+ to own an iPhone, counting service. Now, it can cost the same thing to own an Android I'm sure, but at least with that, you're not locked into a contract AT&T or Verizon. You can go with Sprint, you can do prepaid, you can do super cheap plans, whatever. I think that's a big reason why people in the US are going with Android. They would like an iPhone, but they want something a bit cheaper, or they want some other carrier. It's not like it was a few years ago, when iPhone really had poor competitors (that were not close with popularity), and so people were far more willing to pay a premium for an iPhone.

GameFAQs mobile seems fine, in that I didn't even notice until this topic, and then went "oh yeah, I guess I haven't been scrolling horizontally today when someone posts a long unbroken link."

The problem with most mobile sites is that they remove half the functionality, but everything seems to still be here, at a glance, so....
