-Otherworld might be my new favorite FF song ever. That's including One Winged Angel. It's just so damn different from pretty much anything in the entire FF catalog, and it's so fitting. Not to mention that when it played as the last boss theme I marked the f*** out. So good.
-So maybe it's because I haven't 100%'d the game, but I'm a little confused as to who the true villain really was. I've heard a lot about Yu Yevon, but Swift seemed to believe that Yu Yevon wasn't acting consciously and was honestly just doing what it could to keep on surviving (at Spira's expense, obviously). That's not really a villainous act. I'm not so sure though. Yunalesca's words seemed to say to me that Yu Yevon knew what it was doing and was selfishly acting for its own needs, and Yunalesca was going along with it. This line of thinking made it much more satisfying when I beat both of them.
-Is it ever explained how Jecht got from dream Zanarkand to Spira? I'm guessing the Fayth brought him over so that he could try to help them, but it failed with Jecht, but I'm not sure. It seems kind of random thinking about it. Obviously it wasn't random for Tidus, but yeah.
-How many of you consider FFX-2 canon? I'm all for happy endings but that really cheapens how impactful FFX was and honestly being that FFX is a top tier game and FFX-2 is such rubbish, I'd be more than happy to toss it out.
Maybe not a "villain," but Yu Yevon/Sin is/are definitely the central antagonist. Some people say Seymour but Seymour is such a bad character that I don't really buy that at all. He's never really a threat; just some crazy guy who keeps getting in your way.
And as for the last question; wasn't it heavily implied that Tidus comes back at the end of FFX anyways, what with the scene with him floating up to surface of some water? I mean, I only played FFX after X-2 was already out, but what ELSE is that supposed to be?

It's some dumb fanservicy thing to get people hyped for what was then a potential sequel. It could've been anything. Tidus waking up from a dream, in Yuna's dreams, I don't know. It could've been a ton of different things.
It just seems like Tidus coming back weakens the brilliant FFX ending and I have a problem with that.
Otherworld definitely is an awesome song in context, you can't deny that
But yeah the game doesn't really have an ultimate villain... Seymour is easily the most evil/villanous guy, but like what was said, he basically just got in your way. Yu Yevon was the final boss, but he wasn't really evil, he wasn't even conscious. Yunalesca wasn't evil either, just cynical. Honestly that's probably one of my favorite things about the game. The triumph at the game is that you kill Sin forever, the game-long antagonist... but that also means you kill all the fayth. That's probably why the final encounter was on a double-edged sword.
I just see a lot of people yelling at X-2 because it "ruins" FFX, and I never really got that. I like FFX a lot, but I also really like X-2. They're two separate games though, and I don't feel like either one has a real impact on the other in terms of how much I enjoy them.
I don't think it ruins FFX, but how can you deny that Tidus coming back and all that happy joyful stuff cheapens how great and sad the ending to FFX was. Like now you know, oh hey he disappears but it's okay, he comes back and all is well. Him disappearing after holding Yuna like that is really sad and just awesome but if you know he's coming back it takes away from it, for me anyways.

I love FFX but really, there's nothing wrong with a happy ending. The world itself had suffered enough, to call the ending happy as it is would be a stretch.

FFX-2 is a good game. Just pretend it's a separate entity entirely. I remember getting the good ending (or whatever it's called) and thinking, "really? that's it?" It's a really fun game with the worst lip-synching ever.
