never seen such a storm in belgium. ever. It was over in ten minutes, 2 big stages collapsed. 5 people died. Lots of others badly injured. Whole place turned into a swamp afterwards. This sure is the summer for festivals all right.

I was there as well (orly). It was an absolute nightmare, I feel sorry for people who wanted to leave but couldn't contact their parents or something. I can't believe some people stayed, once I reached the camping site I just wanted to get home as quickly as possible.
Though, why the hell did they not cancel the event? Couldn't they see this **** coming? And Belgium being FLAT LAND they should totally be on the lookout for things like this.

Nope, not that I know of anyway! I only knew about 20 people that were going out of 60k so I think that everyone I know is all right. I hope. Most of them already posted on facebook/sent me a message so yeah.
A friend of mine saw it all happen though, I got out of the area fast enough but he didn't. He said it was really horrible stuff (he saw people trapped under rabble etc) so I'm glad I didn't see anything crash except for some poles and trees.
Really a national disaster though, I don't think anyone ever got hurt at a festival in belgium before except for that guy from Ou Est Le Swimming Pool last year that committed suicide at this exact festival. Kind of creepy come to think about it.
Man, just looked up the festival, apparently this is almost exactly a year after two deaths at the festival last year, one heart attack and one suicide :x

Well yeah, of course it's going to be almost exactly a year afterward, it's an annual festival. >_>

It could be on different days of the month!
But fair enough :P
Still, that was hard to watch, especially knowing if I had been anywhere nearby, I would have gone to that festival :x

Yeah, it's understandable it got cancelled now too. (for this year that is) Kind of bummed out though, so many things I wanted to see. Oh well, it's for the best I wouldn't have enjoyed it as much now anyway. And I don't think anyone else would either

what an unfortunate year to love music...
this is really too bad, so tragic
Yeah it's really horrific. I was joking with my cousin earlier yesterday before **** went down about how stages collapsed in america/canada and that the 'storm' (we normally never have real storms here so we laughed about it) would kill people. If only I knew
You were actually there? That has got to be rough. It's scary when things like that happen so close to home, but that doesn't compare to being there in person.

Yeah it was rough. People were crying all over and on top of that there was no cell phone reception. At all. Like I finally got ahold of my mom to pick me up after two hours of trying and then I had to look for her about 4 hours before I could finally reach her again.
On top of THAT there was mud and water everywhere. I am not lying if I say that I had to walk 5 hours barefoot in the mud (bout 1ft deep at some places I'd say) because my two pair of shoes were ruined (my cousin had to wear my second pair because him got stolen somehow. Don't ask me.)
That said, I'm just glad to be alive and all. Some people had it way more rough than me and some can't even live to tell a story like this.
That sucks. A lot. I hope your wife gets over whatever is troubling her and she realizes that you only did it to show how much you care. That's all I can say really, hope things get better!
