I'm excluding limited roles in Dissidia and CC and all that.

I thought that over the years they would have declined massively. I know Crono has but still, fairly impressive when you go up against the longest running/more expansive franchises in Zelda, Mario, Metroid, Pokemon.

Just a bit more of a positive spin on things.

However the best thing to happen would be for Snake to surpass Cloud and then somehow rally the world to beat Link.

Snake will unfortunately never beat Link. He was at his peak in 2008 and failed despite having a gigantic bandwagon.

Cloud still has more than one game. He has a movie and Dissidia counts too.

I'm also sure that Link would still do really good even if OoT was his only game.

Cloud isn't going to lose this match. The trainers haven't even dropped as much as they dropped vs Samus yet. Samus is one of the most front loaded characters we have. Cloud/Seph are the opposite.

They're not making very good strides in a key time period for them, they're toast. Even if they managed to somehow win, this is still a massive decline.

He still has 3-4 hours of night vote left and even the day vote really won't be bad for him. Cloud will rise all match here.

Look at his NA percent. It's already a little over 45%. Trainers were like over 63% in NA at the start of the match. Cloud is just going to keep rising.

Is there seriously anyone who can even stand a chance against Link in the next 10 years? Meanwhile, the rest of the Nobel 9 are either also Nintendo(ish) or becoming steadily irrelevant. Snake probably had the best shot at toping Link, but it'll never happen since he won't be in any new games. The only character with a moderate amount of strength that's still making new games and isn't Nintendo that I can think of is Sora and he still can't beat someone who's got even less reason to be relevant than Cloud (There's no FFVIII-2 coming out is there?).

This might actually be true. There is no legit character that drops anywhere near as much as these guys have been dropping and they've been dropping that much against people who's best time is normally the power hour/board vote.
