This is a TEW diary I was originally intending for a site I've been helping to work on, but the launch is taking longer than expected, so I'm moving it here to fill my booking urges until I get the CBH mod made. It'll be run a bit differently than the FWA games- there will be a prediction contest, and I've made a few format changes. We'll see how it goes. This is very much a backburner kinda project for now, but I do have a backlog of shows booked, so I'll be posting stuff decently fast for a while at least.

Welcome to my TEW Dyansty! Total Extreme Warfare is a pro wrestling sim game series by Adam Ryland, the maker of Extreme Warfare Revenge if that means anything to you. It's a fun group of games that I highly recommend checking out if you like numbers and strategy and booking and of course wrasslin'. EWR is the better choice for beginners I'd say, but nothing beats the depth of TEW, especially the later editions. For this game, we're using TEW 2010, and the MCD October 2011 database. I will be booking the WWE to the best of my very limited ability, and you the readers get to follow along, heckle me, and make predictions!

This diary won't be as flashy as the ones on the GDS forums, as I dislike too much detail and pizazz in diaries. I will be trying to strike some sort of balance between actual WWE booking and my own tastes- this is intended to continue on from right after Hell in a Cell and make vague sense with the storylines running at the time. I will be running it like I want to, but trying to stay remotely realistic at the same time. Morrison and Bryan and Sheamus might get bigger pushes than WWE's gonna give 'em, but on the other hand you're not going to see a PPV two months from now headlined by AJ Styles v. Chris Hero for the undisputed title. I must confess that I tweaked WWE's match ratio because I hate booking for anything lower than 70%...otherwise the product should be moderately true to life.

I will also be running a prediction contest. Whoever gets the most picks right for a specific PPV will get some sorta little impact on my booking- for instance, the first winner will get some sort of input into who shows up when I revive NXT. The scoring will be as follows:
-TV Match: 1 point
-Raw/SD Main Event: 2 points
-PPV Match: 2 points
-PPV Main Event: 5 points
-Bonus questions: Varies

WWE Champ: Del Rio (2)
US Champ: Ziggler

World Champ: Henry
IC Champ: Cody

Tag Champs: Air Boom
Divas' Champ: Kelly (2)

What does the creative team have to say about my roster?

Franchise Players: Orton, Cena, Punk, Del Rio, Miz
-These are the big names of the promotion. The top draws. The merch sellers. The poster boys.

Next Big Things: None
-These are lower card workers with PHENOMENAL potential. In my experience, it's rare to see any at all.

Hot Prospects: Natalya, Bryan, Maryse, Dibiase, Sin Cara
-These are lower card workers with good potential. I am not entirely sure what EXACTLY the difference is between these and the NBT's, but this seems to be a list more of future "valuable workers" rather than future superstars.

Talk the Talk: Cena, Punk, Taker, Orton, Miz
-The best talkers and entertainers.

Show Stoppers: Morrison, Punk, Orton, Del Rio, Cena
-The most exciting wrestlers in the ring.

Ring Generals: Orton, Bryan, Kidd, Morrison, Punk
-The most fundamentally sound wrestlers.

Who's Hot: Taker, Cena, Orton, Punk, Miz
-There's a Momentum stat that captures...well, momentum. These guys are hot RIGHT NOW whether or not they're actually the most over guys around.

Who's Not: Nobody
-This feels weird. Obviously the mod-maker set everybody's momentum rather than leaving it random like I'm used to. Not sure if I like that or not, but hey, it's nice not having anybody on here!

Time Decline: Nash, Henry, Taker, Reks, McGillicutty
-Guys who are farthest along in the aging process. As you can see, it's not necessarily the oldest guys that are the "oldest."

Hidden Gems: Hero, Dupree, Erick Stevens, Gail, Teddy Hart
-Prospects the game wants me to hire. Tends more towards unknown guys than big name free agents.

Yaaay, another GDS fan who actually bought the skeleton of a game that is CBH.

Oh hey, cool, this is the exact same roster pack I'm using, right down to the month. At least I think it is. MCD_October?

Barrett
Sin Cara/Air Boom
Nash
Ziggler/Swagger
Kelly/AJ/Kaitlyn/Alicia/Eve (Upset pick! Build up the champ!)
Punk (On an unrelated note, can predict we Draws and/or Sports Entertainment Finishes?)
Del Rio/Henry
BONUS (2 points): Uhhhh... Yoshi Tatsu?

By the way, I have been meaning to ask someone who isn't terrible at TEW like I am this question for a while now: How do you constantly put your main eventers against each other and have a winner without the loser suffering overness-wise? Better yet, how do you not just book by the numbers and not always just hand the wins to the worker with higher overness? Whenever I have someone with lower overness beat someone with higher overness, it causes such a big overness penalty to the loser that it ends up just not being worth it, so I end up with really formulaic cards with no upsets ever, and it bores me.

Unexpectedly awesome reception. o_o I'll proooobably post the show and next round of predix at some point tomorrow- I wanna give everybody a shot at getting in on predictions. No contest/Draw/Sports Entertainment Finish and the like ARE a valid choice- just put "no contest" or something similar, as it's all the same.

-You'll be waiting a long time if you're looking here for non-terrible TEW players. I'm probably the best around and that's just sad. >_>
-"Constantly putting your main eventers against each other" probably isn't the best plan anyway...it's good to save the big money matches for the PPV, especially if you have the repetitive booking penalty on, and use triple threats, tags, and ME/MC kinds of matches for TV.
-Keep Strong is your friend. Keep Strong can really take the sting off a loss, and I think Dominate does even better. Open Match helps too.
-I haven't noticed huge problems with this. I mean, yeah, you don't wanna job your top shelf ME guys to midcarders if you wanna keep 'em over, but unless I just don't pay enough attention, jobbing one ME to a slightly less popular ME shouldn't be creating cataclysmic problems. I do try to keep losses within the same level on the card, though, unless I reeeeeally wanna get the underdog over or something.
-It's not EWR where you can have an entire roster of super over guys if you just keep going long enough. Try to pick guys at a few different levels that you don't mind sacrificing to put people over, and try to pick guys at each level to focus on and build up. If you wanna make an omlette with an undercard guy, you're probably gonna have to crack a few uppercard eggs to some extent, and that's just how it goes unless you're awesome.
-On a semi-related note, angles are your friend, especially with a fed like WWE. Somebody with superb entertainment skills can frequently bounce back pretty quickly just by getting mic time. This goes double for monster types, as a good Menace-based angle works wonders, as does a Dominate note for people running...I think Brute and Legit are the gimmick types that get crazy bonuses for that. It's like real life- all Kane needs is a squash or two and he's suddenly a big deal again even after getting his ass kicked for the 21847th feud in a row.

And yeah, CBH is a mite disappointing. I like it, don't get me wrong, but I'm more excited for CBH2 than CBH, and that's a kinda unfortunate feeling to get as early as I did. And yup, MCD October it is :D

Cool stuff. So is the idea that you're going to take over storylines as they were at October and drive them a different way or what? Based on this card I kinda think no but figured I'd ask since some of them do seem relevant to back then like Mason Ryan being involved in the Vickie group.

Morrison
Sin Cara/Air Boom
Nash
Ziggler/Swagger
Beth/Natalya/Nikkie/Brie/Maryse
Punk
Del Rio/Henry
BONUS (2 points): Alex Riley

Also I may book TNA in here for giggles (or WWE if people would rather see me do that due to not caring about TNA)-- I would say I'd stay true to the storylines at first and then steer them out, which I might, but no one even knows TNA storylines anyway so.

STAY TUNED in any case. <_<

It's vaaaaguely related to where things were going after Hell in a Cell, although there are a few weird things like heel Punk, active Nash, and me later forgetting that Henry/Orton already had a blowoff. Still, the idea is that it's meant to basically serve as a continuation of the storylines.

Anyway the best way I've found to have main eventers lose to lower guys and still maintain their overness is to just use them in a lot of angles. Unless you're playing in an angleless fed realize that angles will benefit everyone involved in them overnesswise as long as the angles play to the strengths. Basically the idea is to feel free to take your guys at like A over down a peg unless you're building them for a big event-- like if you're working to a big Orton/Henry match, you can afford to knock Cena down a bit to elevate an upper midcarder, then build him back up through interviews/good matches before he is the focus of your brand again. This is harder to do with high over guys that don't have high interview stats (or wrestling stats if you've got good guys to work with them) to build themselves back up though. As long as you don't do stuff like have John Cena lose to Santino at random the overness hit should be recoverable (these matches don't gain you much for the winner, either).

Momentum also helps, here. A dude a bit lower in the card with A momentum won't hurt Cena as much by beating him I don't think.

Also don't underestimate the benefit of just having an open match that's good and having your lower guy lose. You will actually gain overness from losses if you book good matches/feuds.

I don't like Tom's solution of "keep strong" though-- in my experience it always tanks the match rating more than it's worth. You save the losing guy some overness but I think it gives the winner less overness too so it's like "why bother." Just have the higher over guy win if you can't hack giving him a bit of an over hit.

I don't actually have a preference to WWE and TNA. WWE has the benefit of me (and the readerbase) being more familiar with the storylines and roster, but TNA has more room for improvement so might be more satisfying to book and also has less potential overlap with anything Tom might do (I don't know if the latter will actually matter for how much I enjoy it though-- somehow I don't see us having very similar ideas ever!)

Well how much the "real life" start matters depends on you. Rosters have to be set at some point in time based on what the database you get is based on, unless you wanna create a database from scratch (lol), but you can also edit the databases to start your own organization in there or heavily edit rosters of existing feds before starting (work-- less work in EWR), or just make so many hires/fires/tweaks to start the game that it doesn't matter aside from stats and how good your organization starts.

I mean as far as current state of storylines and such Tom/myself are just doing that to make it "realistic" or something they aren't stored or anything.

I was just asking since you seemed to have a lot of top guys against each other, and my first thought was "That's what I want to do! But it never works for me!"

I'm especially suffering on one of my non-real life mod games where I'm playing a regional promotion with one main eventer who's, like, twenty overness above the next biggest star. So I don't know what to do other than just jobbing people to said main eventer for the rest of infinity.

And yeah, CBH is a mite disappointing. I like it, don't get me wrong, but I'm more excited for CBH2 than CBH, and that's a kinda unfortunate feeling to get as early as I did.

Yeah, I was pretty disappointed when I realized I was playing basically a beta for CBH2. It's not bad, but I definitely found myself having more fun editing databases than actually playing them. There's just not nearly enough to the actual game.

Momentum also helps, here. A dude a bit lower in the card with A momentum won't hurt Cena as much by beating him I don't think.

Ah, I was wondering what momentum did. I've been playing the game for over a year and I still couldn't find any information on what momentum will do for a worker.

What would you rather me book?
C. Who cares - your shows are always fun anyway.

When should I start the booking timeline?
A. October Would be interesting to see the differences as far as who other companies are hiring and firing and how everyone else is doing.

Who should my first hire/fire be?
Hire Glacier

So yeah I guess I wanna do a poll too to everyone who cares about my sideshow booking. Idea is going to be similar to Tom where I start having the current storylines and then steer them off as I see fit. My limit is going to be one hire/fire per month to prevent me from mutilating the show too much talentwise. I'll probably ask user input on those too prevent Daffney vs Glacier from being the main event too quickly.

What would you rather me book?
A. WWE
B. TNA
C. Who cares

When should I start the booking timeline?
A. October so I can run in parallel to Tom (he'll totally dust me though)
B. Roughly "current" from when I start
C. Roughly "current" from where Tom is when I start
D. Who cares

Who should my first hire/fire be?
No letterz all write-in.

I mean as far as current state of storylines and such Tom/myself are just doing that to make it "realistic" or something they aren't stored or anything.

some TEW mods DO have starting storylines programmed in but it takes about five seconds before the game to delete them

What would you rather me book?
B. TNA just cuz, although I really don't care. Your booking is fun and weird enough to be a draw whether I know anybody or not, but variety might be nice.

When should I start the booking timeline?
A. October so I can run in parallel to Tom (he'll totally dust me though)

Who should my first hire/fire be?
Hire: Slater (I am taking Glacier and Daffney as givens and assuming Sheamus will be harder to steal. >_>)
Fire: Any Hardy Boys you might have around (TNA) or Orton (WWE)

MONDAY NIGHT RAW
October Week 1, 2011

Pre-show: Brodus d. Riley (66); McGillicutty and Otunga feel underused and want a shot (66); Ryder begs HHH for some sort of opportunity, and gets an IC Title shot IF he can win tonight (74)

-HHH opens the show in the ring. He has three big announcements to make after last night. Firstly, he is bringing back the brand split, tired of all the chaos from people jumping shows and whatnot. Tonight's Raw is a SUPERSHOW to commemorate the occasion, but that's it. Secondly, he calls Laurinitis to the ring. He wants him to move to Smackdown. Laurinitis protests, but HHH insists that Raw is under control and he needs him as a presence on Friday nights.
Rating: 59

-Finally, he calls out Kevin Nash, who he knows is in the back. HHH knows Nash has a Legends contract, and if he's going to keep showing up at WWE events and doing as he pleases, he needs to back it up in the ring. He tells Nash to lace up his boots, as he has a match tonight!
Rating: 87

-Match: Morrison v. Barrett
In my little world, Morrison is not in fact in the doghouse. He takes a lot of abuse, but scores with a rollup to take home a win.
Rating: 73

-Match: Sin Cara and Air Boom v. Sin Cara II, Otunga, and McGillicutty
The heels fail to impress much as the faces roll to a victory.
Rating: 66

-Match: Nash v. ???
Nash's opponent turns out to be Justin Gabriel. Time has obviously been unkind to Nash no matter how he tries to hide it, but he's still able to put away the flier.
Rating: 69

-Match: Ryder and Ryan v. ZigSwag v. Priceless
It's explained that Ryder and Ryan get shots at Cody and Ziggler if they can come out on top here. Cody and Ted spend the entire match arguing, and Cody eventually walks out. Ted doesn't care much, so the match essentially boils down to the faces and Vickie's cronies. Swagger struggles against Ryder, and while he's able to reverse the Rough Ryder into a slam, he's making Vickie nervous. She screams at him for a bit, and the distraction is enough to cost him the win.
Rating: 77
JR and King have good announcer chemistry! Fancy that.

-A video plays, hyping Cody's run as IC champion and Ryder's recent rise to fame.
Rating: 68

-Match: Kelly/AJ/Kaitlyn/Alicia/Eve d. Divas of Doom/Bellas/Maryse
Rating: 58

-Punk confronts HHH backstage, and complains about his lack of a match. Punk accuses HHH of holding him down by keeping him out of the main event, calling it a typical burial. HHH says that if Punk wants a push so bad, why not actually earn one? He'll fight Sheamus later tonight.
Rating: 92

-Match: Sheamus v. Punk
Punk's able to give as good as he gets, but the match is ultimately decided by Christian, who runs in on Sheamus.
Rating: 75
Sheamus/Punk poor chemistry

-Christian gets an opportunity to vent his title-related frustrations as he pounds away at the Celtic Warrior.
Rating: 85

-Match: Cena and Orton v. Del Rio and Henry
A good back and forth match. Cena has the upper hand and is about to put away Del Rio when AWESOME TRUTH come out of the crowd! They go after both sides, having no trouble cleaning house on the tired competitors. The match is ruled a no contest.
Rating: 83

-The fighting continues in a confused melee until security hits the ring to break it up and haul off Truth and Miz.
Rating: 92

-Laurinitis comes to ringside with a thoughtful expression. He tells security to be gentle with Awesome Truth, and apologizes for their rough treatment. He would like to invite them to be his guests this week backstage at Smackdown.
Rating: 67

Post-show: HHH says Awesome Truth might as well fight since they're here (97); Cena/Orton d. Awesome Truth (66)

Overall: 74, failure.

From the Bookerman:
-Man, Laurinitis is really not over at all. He's decent on the stick, but he needs to pick up some overness fast if I'm going to use him regularly in angles.
-I expected a better rating than that. The last time I tried to run WWE, it fell to Cult within a couple of months. Hopefully we can avoid that fate here, but that's not an auspicious start. I am not THAT great at this game with a company whose style I DO know how to book.
-Disappointing about Punk and Sheamus. They are two of my favorites, so they would've been likely to feud at some point. Better to find that out in a throwaway Raw match than a PPV ME, I guess.
-I don't know why Punk is set as a heel in this data, but he is. I'm going to run with it for now.
-I am getting my timeline confused, so I guess Orton and Henry are still feuding even after the HiaC match. Oh well.
-We have a frickton of people out injured or taking time off, but most should be back pretty soon. Looking forward to the added depth.
-I have even less interest in the divas' division than the actual writers do!
-I don't currently have much in the way of hiring/firing plans. I might let go some people I don't really know or care about, and I am planning to do a season of NXT so I'll need people for that, but I've never been a huge TURNOVER THE ENTIRE ROSTER kinda player with WWE.

Tombooking reigns supreme! To be fair, it was kinda a jerk move having a no contest ME without explicitly establishing in the opening post you could predict no winner. >_> I also like how all the 1's and 2's are FWA vets. XD

Predict it!

to be fair that was the "B8 runs WWE" game where you guys fired R-Truth at the first opportunity, had Tarver win NXT, and made Dibiase the King of the Ring
