Santana and Brittany sort of switched places on this list rather recently. Santana has actually become a much larger player in the Glee-verse than Brittany ever was. She’s holding down the lesbian story line, and is doing a damn good job of it. Honestly, Glee is such a terrible show these days, the few shining moments in an episode usually belong to Santana. This season Santana was prematurely outed by one of her so called friends. A subject I know a little bit about myself. Finn’s justification was that everyone already knew anyway, but that doesn’t make it right. Coming out is difficult and traumatic enough as it is without someone forcing you out before you're ready. This lead directly to my everlasting Finn hatred.
More recently Santana came out to her grandmother – who basically raised her – and was thrown out of the house and massively rejected. It was a very powerful and well done scene, I thought. And even more recently, Brittany and Santana shared their very first on screen kiss on the lips! And the lesbians rejoiced and were glad. However, despite popular opinion, I really and truly wish Santana would let Brittany go and get an actual, bonafide girlfriend that actually seems interested in her and their story line. I do like Heather Morris, and I dunno if it’s the writers or what, but Santana and Brittany can go like 3 or 4 episodes without so much as saying one word to one another. Just my opinion.
Santana’s brand of snarky comedy, brilliant delivery, and drop dead amazing singing are shining spots in the dump heap that has become Glee, and for that she’s number 20 on my list.

Ok. I’ll admit it. I can’t hide it from you guys any longer. I’m a complete sucker for the sexy teacher with a whip thing Quistis has going on. This entry is super shallow on my part.
Aside from that, I genuinely felt for Q when she was rejected by Squall. And honestly, I’ve never been a huge fan of Rinoa (or Selphie for that matter), and so in a game with vastly inferior female characters I kind of latched onto Quistis. I’ve always liked her design, unfortunately I feel like FFVIII didn’t exactly know what they wanted to do with her. It seems her back story goes in a lot of different directions – orphanage, adopted, leaves at a very young age, SeeD by 15, teacher by 18, then fired for lack of leadership? Doesn’t really make a whole lot of sense. Then again, this is FFVIII we’re talking about. A lot of things don’t really make a whole lot of sense (still love it though). I mean, she doesn’t really do a whole lot in game…
I don’t know. Blame my vagina for this one =]

Yeah I used to like Quistis a good deal more for a lot of the same reasons you did-- mostly "by default" cause there aren't many good female (or any) characters in the game. Then I took a step back and said to myself why did you like her exactly? And I couldn't answer it, beyond her being my third party member due to Squall and Zell being the only 2 other good party members.

I mean I'm even a sucker for whips and to a lesser extent sexy librarian/teacher types but Quistis isn't sexy to me for reasons I can't explain. Well, it's probably a lot due to her personality, actually. The whip doesn't really fit her at all as a weapon if you get what I mean.

So almost like I flipped a switch, I just stopped liking her as much. Happens sometimes.

I think it comes from the fact that the characters I like, I always like. I don't really grow out of them. So even when I come to enjoy a new character, the old one's place in my mind is still pretty much set. If that makes sense.

Yeah it's that way to me for most characters for me, but like, sometimes I'll do the Heroic Mario thing and like a character a lot right off and then after I reflect on the game or anime or book or whatever I'll "normalize" a bit and be a bit less high on em.

I mean Quistis is still decent she might even go on a list like this if I made one (though she'd be much lower than 19) but just sayin I used to like her more.

18. Rikku

Like I’ve said before, I enjoy a girl that can physically kick some ass. I think I’ve mentioned that FFX was my first real RPG, and so Rikku was really my first exposure to a stat-based character like that. Since the other two ladies in your party (Yuna and Lulu) are heavily focused on magic, Rikku is like a nice little surprise when she finally joins your party and starts laying the Godhand smack down. This is also when I discovered I’d rather use a character that I liked over a character that might be stronger or easier to use. Granted, in FFX it’s not too difficult because you can just switch everyone in and out at your leisure, but I made it a point to keep Rikku in my starting lineup.
I prefer Rikku’s FFX design to her FFX-2 design, but the latter is still pretty good. Like I said in Yuna’s entry, I sort of like to think of the two as different characters. Both still good, but not so much when you try and wrap your mind around the fact that the caricature in the sequel “grew” from the character in the first game.
And dem swirly green eyes, awe yeah.
I like Rikku’s back story, especially because at the time the whole overused concept of racial discrimination as a plot device was relatively still new to me. So it didn’t feel old hat. This is one thing I’m grateful for with FFX being my first FF, some of the old mainstays of earlier games were done away with. To this day I still hate trudging around world maps to get to where I’m trying to go. I like to know where I’m headed, and go that way. This also could be one of the reasons I despise FFXII and love FFXIII, but I digress. Rikku’s relation to Yuna took me genuinely by surprise, and her dedication to her cousin was a nice dynamic in the game. Rikku was also always the one Tidus would get the extra scenes with for me. Probably because I used her all the time. Also, she was voiced by the great Tara Strong. Who can complain about that?
And as I do a little refreshing to write this entry, I’m reminded that Rikku was 15 in FFX. Wow! I don’t remember her being so young. One thing I liked about Vanille, she was 19. Even though it’s just an arbitrary number, it still makes me feel weird that they billed Rikku so young.

Nice to see Rikku place pretty high. I like her bonus/extra scenes with Tidus most out of all the characters. The age is kind of weird though since she doesn't look it. Thinking back on it I kind of find it hard to believe Tidus and Yuna were only 17 in FFX. Then again Auron was only in his mid 30s and already had some hints of gray in his hair too. Most of the FFX PC ages don't make sense to me aside from maybe Lulu and Wakka.

Ah, here we go, the first sailor scout to make the list. If she’s not your favorite, don’t worry! We’ve still got one more to go.
I love Sailor Mars for several reasons. She’s always busting Sailor Moon’s balls, her element is fire, my favorite color is red, and she’s by far the hottest (pun intended). If you can call a middle school anime character hot. And honestly, who doesn’t love a girl that knows her way around a bow and arrow? That’s something we can all enjoy.
Sailor Mars has many incarnations, from manga to anime to musical theater to live action, but this entry is primarily about her anime counterpart. Mostly because I haven’t read the manga and I’ve only seen bits and pieces of the live action (in which she was also a baller). Mars can be dark and broody, reading her eternal flame to foretell certain doom, but she can also be immature and bicker with the other sailor scouts, especially sailor moon. Still, she would do anything to protect her friends. And on the real I was a huge Mars/Moon shipper back in the day.
Something I’ve always found funny about Rei is that she goes to a Catholic all girls school (which hey, I can get behind), yet she’s a Shinto priestess. Seems a little contradictory to me. I wonder what prompted that decision by the creator. Seems like such a minor yet weird thing. She does have the best school uniform bar far though. And what’s great about Sailor Mars is that she doesn’t necessarily have to transform to have super powers. She just slaps dat paper on people’s foreheads and renders them impotent. Now that’s a dominating lady right there!

Quistis is likeable due to stockholm syndrome. It's like, here you are, stuck in this game with nothing but completely stupid and terrible characters and along comes one who doesn't really do all that much or have that much characterization, but she's kinda cute and not a giant idiot, so you start thinking she's really great.

First of all:


I Won’t Say I’m In Love might be my favorite Disney song of all time. I’m not 100% positive on that, but it’s definitely close. Top three for sure. Susan Egan couldn’t be more amazing in this role, her voice is so unique – she was cast perfectly in my opinion.
Meg is interesting to me because she doesn’t turn out to be the traditional love interest for the hero, but at the same time she’s not just a typical “strong female good guy” either. Meg has a lot of layers that get touched upon throughout a relatively short movie. You’ve got young naive Meg, who sells her soul to save someone she’s madly in love with, only to get burned. You’ve got disillusioned Meg, who believes there’s no good in the world and love is just a big farce and getting help from anyone is weakness. Then there’s cautious Meg, who starts to feel that love again but has been hurt so badly she can’t believe in it right away. And finally there’s heroic Meg, who is able to break the bonds of betrayal that have been holding her back and come to Hercules’ rescue.
Meg is crafty and knows how to get what she wants, working her feminine wiles and smooth talking ways to manipulate people into going along with her plans. It seems that being a minion to Hades wouldn’t actually be too bad of a gig for her, considering how good she is at it. But Meg values her freedom above pretty much all else, and doesn’t like taking orders from anyone.
I’ve always liked the art direction in Hercules, probably one of my favorites of all the golden age Disney movies. That’s not to say the movie itself is my favorite, a few others easily outshine it just from a story perspective. But there are certain elements, like Meg’s song, the art, Meg’s and a few other’s characterization, that really make certain aspects of this movie shine.

I've always disliked the art direction in Hercules, but it's a pretty good movie. I like Meg. Don't love her or anything, but I understand her appeal at the very least.

Listed the exact same reasons that I would have given for Meg. I feel there are many more layers to her than to most Disney females and in a short time she's given a lot of potential development. Meg also proposes a different perspective to the whole "female love interest" thing, being portrayed as a completely average girl and even kind of treacherous at first, she's not an innocent country girl, a princess or an universal charmer like Esmeralda.

Another thing that gets me about Meg is that I figure she had set her mind from the very beginning about Hercules, knowing that he was either destined to become a god or perish at the hands of Hades, and she was always ready to acknowledge that she didn't really belong with a god, like at the end of the movie.

And yes, I Won't Say I'm In Love is such an effective song.
