TYPE: Water
Oshawott possibly derives from "ocean", "shell", "water" and "otter"; it may be a corruption of "ocean water". The "osha" part could be a corruption of "O-shaped", given that its Japanese name contains "maru", meaning round. It might make reference to the Canadian city of Oshawa, as Canada contains many protected areas in which sea otters reside. It could also make reference to George Ohsawa, a famed dietitian born into a poor samurai family during the Meiji Restoration of Japan.

Dewott is a combination of dew, water and otter. It may also be a combination of "dual" or "duel" and "otter", considering that Dewott uses two shells to fight. Furthermore, "duo" is the Italian word for "two," meaning the second in its evolutionary line. Also, Helen DeWitt is the name of the author of The Last Samurai.

For me its appeal comes from the fanart. Do a Google search of "Dewott" and browse for a few pages. I can't guarantee you'll fall in love with it like I did, but I can 100% guarantee you will like it more than you did before you saw some excellent artist interpretations of it. Of course everyone's going to differ on this, but in my honest opinion it is the peak of its line design-wise. It has that perfect balance of cute and cool that I just adore. Plus, it's a duel-sword wielding samurai otter. How awesome can a concept get?
