Didn't think the other topic was going to purge when it did. Oh well. Hope someone else here is still actually playing it. >_>

Started using Booming Bullets with Lonestar instead of Cheetah Bullets. I feel like it gives me enough area damage that I don't wish I had Dynamite, and I still have the high damage of the Blaster and can upgrade it to 13 damage a shot. Piggy Bank > Crystal Eagle > Booming Bullets > Eagle 1+2 > Speed/Health > Bull > Super Breed > Both Slows, to sum up how I usually upgrade him, I guess. Anything after Booming Bullets is pretty flexible, though. If the enemies are grouping up well I'll probably take Bull much earlier. Not sure if I should put Techno Viking Helmet in and not sure what I'd take out if I were to.

Just played a match on Ribbit IV (two separate lanes, two turrets each) where I got in and our bottom two turrets were destroyed, core already exposed. The frontmost top one was somewhat damaged. We managed to hold them off long enough and with all our turrets destroyed mounted an offense through the top turrets and managed to kill the core in the same push, while they were starting to get at our core (Not sure entirely sure how seriously, I finished off their core but the last I saw of ours it was maybe 35% or so so we were probably about to lose too). Went 14-0 as Leon, had one other real teammate and a bot, with K/Ds of 5/4 and 4/5 respectively, IIRC. We had another real teammate that D/C'd before the end, IDK how good he did. They had a good Leon who went 8-3 and two really bad feeders who were like 0-13 or something.

I guess it makes sense that we were able to do that because of the really bad people on the other team but I was still really excited to win that match.

oh man this game rules

so far I like Clunk and Froggy G the most, I seem to do well with stuns and slows and whatnot. Also I do well with becoming a monster tank who will gladly 2v1 for 10 seconds. I really am not good with assassins so I probably will never get good with Leon. Haven't tried Voltar or Yuri yet.

Lonestar seems weak, I see you don't even grab bull or dynamite until like your sixth upgrade >_> I like Bull but dynamite seems really crappy until you get three sticks and a bigger radius.

The demo is 30 minutes of online play and limitless offline games against bots (you can't use splitscreen for offline games with the demo, though). Hopefully you can get at least a couple of decent games online. If you have a team you don't want to play with again then make sure to not just use the character select screen they dump you back into after the match immediately since doing so pairs you up with the same team again.

I've actually changed back to Dynamite since. You really do need the area and burst damage it provides. You should be able to get both extra sticks and an explode on contact (Rubber Sleeve or Contact Detonator, I use Rubber Sleeve) upgrade fairly early on, so there isn't too much to worry about. With Piggy Bank you can afford to start off with one of the extra stick upgrades so you should be alright while you don't those other two essential dynamite upgrades. From there, I'll usually start upgrading the Bull. With Cattle Rebooter (Shorter CD for Bull, same as Dynamite after upgrade) and Super Breed (More health, more knockback) you have a pretty good makshift minipush against turrets, since you can get some good damage in with 3x Dynamite in that time. Breaking up groups with the Bull isn't all that effective. They'll regroup pretty quickly and you won't have much to show for it. There's not really anything set after that, and if I felt I needed to I could definitely insert some upgrades between Dynamite and Bull. I've found that I usually need to get defensive upgrades at this point, health or speed. Mister TNT (Larger area for Dynamite) is something I'll want to get upgraded too, since it helps even more against enemy groups. Might still swap it out for Transfusion, but probably not. Damage/Rate of Fire upgrades for the Blaster come very lategame.

Other character just don't have the area damage that Lonestar does. He's very good at getting groups to scramble just enough that other characters can potentially get some kills, since he can do it from such a safe distance. Dynamite's angle can help with this since you can attack effectively from midair platforms. The middle of AI Station 404 and the platforms closest to the top turrets on Sorona are good examples. Lonestar is also able to push turrets with minimal bots, another rather unique ability.

I like to play Clunk really, really dumb. Get Homing Sensors, Free Flight Fins (Speed and Rate of Fire), and the Salvo Value Pack (or Fat Pete if I don't have that unlocked) and use your high health to your advantage. If someone tries to challenge you too much, explode on them in defense. Get some max HP boosts and use Bite to keep your health up/raise the max with Medical Pump. Then again, I've already changed my mind on how Lonestar should be played at least 3 times or something, and I've played Clunk way less, so...

I have decided on Bite, Piggy, Med Pump to start, first back Explode + Bite Damage/life upgrades, then one point of Slowdown during explode, then both explode recoil reductions. Explode is really scary when you can use it and not ever have to worry about dying with it. I've gotten so many sneaky kills that I would've died with if I didn't have the recoil reduction. Then Max HP, gun upgrades, etc.

Also if you have a Voltar leveling heals then you're basically unstoppable, push every turret, dgaf

5 Prestige, Level 45. Maxed both of them. It only took... 55 hours, 55 minutes, and 48 seconds. Nothing stopping me from using whatever upgrades I want... until the next patch comes out and adds 5 more prestige ranks. Leon's Electrifier upgrade for his sword (Adds a slow effect) is the one I'm most happy that I can just use whenever now.

Fighting an enemy Leon that has Hungry Blade (Lifesteal) as Leon without it is pretty disadvantageous. Makes me want to take it, but I don't want to give up the Backstab, Slow, or straight damage up. Not sure it's too useful overall, either.

So far I'm only rank ~21 or so and Leon is probably the character I'm worst with, but I find the lifesteal much more useful than the backstab. Just like you said, it gives you the edge in an otherwise even matchup. If you're low then killing neutral creeps or even two small enemy creeps will get you back up pretty quick. Honestly though I really suck with Leon so that might be it.

edit: also, I can't wait for the new character, partially because there will also be a balance patch and hopefully they give Yuri some nice stuff so he's less bad. Part of the problem is that his mines have such a delay, they should drop much faster. Maybe let him move faster when flying. Or tweak his time warp, maybe a bigger default range. I dunno.

Well, Yuri needs good, smart players with him to be effective. He can't use a simple "mass up a bunch of bots and rush a push asap" like Voltar, either. He covers a large area with his laser, mines, and time warp. When enemies are caught up avoiding all of that s***, it can help allies get kills on them, make it easy for enemies to mess up at low health and die, and make it hard for enemies to go where they want to. If you have a good push going, Yuri can make it very hard for the enemies to break it up because he'll have covered the area quite a bit, in addition to the area that your bots and allies are already covering. The benefits of having a good Yuri are just less obvious than for having other good characters since he's very much a support class and sets up situations his allies can take advantage of instead of creating ones for himself, but isn't as simple as Voltar.

my 7 year old brother loves this game, but we only play with bots since he's not really good, but if he ever picks Lonestar or Yuri or Voltar we lose to bots anyway. As Lonestar he uses the bull on minions so that they amass a pile of 4-6 and rush the turret at one time, as Voltar he doesn't really heal, and as Yuri he spends his time trying to 1v1 Leon. Every match he tries to 1v1 Leon. I try to teach him to not die so much but he doesn't quite get it ):

Yeah, taking the bull early and using it to push enemies back to no real effect seems to be the most common big mistake people make, along with thinking that Yuri can be effective on his own.

Maybe if you can get him to use a Dynamite build as Lonestar he might end up learning how to play that decently.
