So, it was bad enough when he won his first two (both undeserved, Kobe was better, both years). But I thought we went back to sanity after last year, when Rose won it. This year when he was less valuable than Durant, Kobe, Rose, Paul, and possibly Rondo, he was given the award. So the ultimate Choker in sports history is now a 3 time MVP. He now has more MVP's than Final's game victories. No one else with 3 MVP's is not a MULTI time NBA Champion, this guy has done nothing. (well, he is an All Time choker, but that should not warrant MVP's)

To go a step further how incredibly stupid this was, he was not even the most Valuable player on his own damn team. Wade was the closer this year, the league's most VALUABLE player did not even have the value to close out games for his own team.

Finally, a player with not one, but TWO other superstars on his league could not even get the one seed in his own conference, and had the FOURTH best record in the league.

UnFRIGGENbelievable,

Kobe in 08 was the last MVP before the award became a joke. Joining the ranks of the MLB MVP awards, which are also now nothing but paperweights because of decisions.

IF He makes it to June, I am going to enjoy watching Boston dismantle the arrogant Primadonna.

Except there were 4 legit candidates that year. And Lakers and NO played with like 4 games to go and the seed on the line. Lakers won, Kobe outplayed Paul, that was the lasting image for the voters, and he should have won it over him because of that. Paul shows up for the biggest game of that season, he probably has the hardware. But he did not, Kobe did.

Again, he had a HELL of a season. But he knows how the voting on this works. If something like this is AT ALL close and they play at the very end of the season, the voters are going to go with that last image. That image was Kobe in the 4th quarter being Kobe, while Paul did not have the best game in the world and did not help his team win the biggest game of the season. That game was a micrososm of that season. (Actually, a microcosm of that season would be the Finals, where the Lakers literally had a Title stolen from them by the officials, while Powe took more FT's than THE ENTIRE LAKERS TEAM!!!) Kobe was better, just barely, but better when it mattered than CP3.

Dude, I don't know WTH you are remembering from this season. It's not like Paul was head and shoulders above the other 3, and they just all flipped off of one game. It was a dead heat between everyone, if anyone had any advantage on anyone heading into the last 2 weeks it was miniscule to say the least. They put to much weight into one game because they needed SOME type of tie breaker. This was not like Paul had 91 Jordan numbers and the others were not close or anything. I remember going into that week when all the talking heads were saying that game could very well decide MVP, because no one could with confidence call it yet. Paul knew that, so did Kobe. One showed up, one did not, and barely tipped the scales in his favor. It was a rather weak year for MVP candidates.

Rose missed like 30 games this season. It is true they are significantly better with him than without (Eastern Conference finals last year vs. first round loss to a bad Philly team this year, with basically the same team), but Noah, Gibson, and Deng are all good players, and even Boozer, Korver, and Hamilton had their stretches. Plus, Lebron had one of the most ridiculous seasons ever from a statistical standpoint. No way Rose deserved it more this year.

Now, I do think he deserved it last year, but I have a hard time giving it to a player when he misses like half the season.

Hmm.....Value = contribution to probability of winning championship for team compared with having a random replacement player instead

Most Valuable Player = the player in the league with the greatest value

If we use these definitions, it seems stupid for the MVP to be based only on the regular season.

It's a regular season award.

It's handed out before the playoffs are even over.

Unless they change the formatting, it doesn't mean squat whether they win it all or get trounced in the first round. Hell, the Dallas Mavericks lost in the first round the year Dirk Nowitzki won the MVP award, and I don't see MWC saying anything about that.
