I'm tempted to buy this since I have a $20 giftcard from picking up Soul Calibur V but I've been holding out for a good deal on MLB 12 The Show. However, I've never played Grand Theft Auto IV and this seems like a good chance to pick up the game (even though I assume I can get it used for $5 at this point or something and this is just the vanilla edition).
Think this is a good deal? GTAIV was weird in the sense that it was initially well-praised then suddenly seen as very dry and bland thanks to games like Saints Row and Just Cause showing that sandbox games where you flat out don't give a s*** about realism make the best games. But I always felt guilty about not giving this game a chance and was just wondering if it's worth the look or if I should just pick up Max Payne from Amazon or some s***.

GTAIV is a really good game. It's just that some stupid design decisions bring it down a lot for no reason other than "realism". It has a lot of great new features for the GTA series. The GPS is great, the dynamic cover system is really impressive, the shooting is better than ever, the characters are as always Rockstar-quality amazing, and the story is actually quite good. I felt really attached to the story through to the end. There are also plot decisions that are really well done. Still, some elements of the gameplay, particularly the driving, keep it from being as fun as San Andreas.
