The only acceptable answer is that you already read it, of course. I'm on the second book.

Cause I've already read it twice.

Fallen Empire is my favorite book now. Loved it!

Might reread Way of Kings after this.

Because Sanderson isn't a very good writer. I never made it more than halfway through Elantris.

He literally wrote a book on a single airplane ride, didn't edit it, and then sold it direct to fans at an insane price. It really shows in his work how little effort he puts in beyond 'pound out the words'.

That was his first published book and is universally considered his worst book (by a lot). I abosutely love Sanderson, but Elantris was an interesting concept done very badly.

It's a fantasy book set centuries after the prophesized hero came and beat the big bad. Then he used his power to set up a giant dictatorship, enslaved most of the people, made a religion based on himself as god, and the whole world went to hell. Now a group of thieves are going to try and do something about it.

There is also a really cool "magic" system where-in certain people are able to draw powers from specific metals, and a few rare people can use all the powers. Stuff like enhanced strength, enhanced sight, pushing and pulling on metal, etc.

Elantris really isn't the barometer you wanna be using for Sanderson. Mistborn is indeed extremely quality writing.

Sazed top tier.

Apparently, this book has some following because when I went to the library to check it out, all the copies were taken.

I should have a copy on hold, though...

Sanderson is a pretty popular fantasy writer right now, and he gained a lot of fans when he was chosen to complete the Wheel of Time series.

Good advice, great banter, very funny, and has introduced me to some excellent authors. Particularly Mary Robinette Kowal, who I am in love with despite not having managed to find any of her books yet.

Read it years ago. I'm kind of surprised it's as popular as it is on this board, but I shouldn't be. It is a very accessible trilogy. Really enjoyable stuff.

The next thing everyone should do is read the Dresden Files. This board would love that series. And it's on going so there will be something to discuss every year.

Mistborn is indeed extremely quality writing.

The prose itself isn't anything special and people who like "literary" works probably wouldn't appreciate Sanderson. But everyone else would. I like to recommend Mistborn to people who have a hard time finishing books that aren't Harry Potter.

Just started that recently! Kanz and Chris (I think it was Chris) talked it up a bunch and I was looking for a new series so I gave it a try. I am on Book 5 (Death Masks) right now and really enjoying it.
