...characters, names and classes.

I hurt my leg so I'm down for a while. I've been watching ProJared play Final Fantasy 1, and it made me want to play it. So I figured I'd play most of the series. I have multiple versions of most of the games.

I'll be starting with 1 and 10. Playing 1 by myself and the wife will be watching 10.

I know 4 versions I'm going to be playing so far. I tried playing Jeff Ledwig's rom hack, it was neat but I wasn't having fun. I might try the changes he made to 2.

Versions I'll be playing:
1. Origins
2.
3.
4.
5.
6. BTB's Version
7.
8.
9.
10. HD remaster
12. Ps4 version. It should be out by the time I get there
13.

I know people have done this before and I figured I'd do it too since I don't know which classes and stuff I want.

I feel I should have clarified "Please no gimmick teams".

I deserve that.

For FF1, pretty much the party that Pro Jared is using works except swap the Thief for a Black Belt. Black Belt doesn't need a weapon after like 8th level because he hits so many times and does so much damage with his fists. His armor isn't any better then a mage though.

If you have the Origins version of FF1, I assume you have the Origins version of FF2? That is the one you want to play, the Famicom one is not as good.

Yeah. I was tempted to play the GBA or PSP versions because I've never been able to beat Dawn of Souls, and I'd really like to do that (even though it's essentially only one dungeon)

I'm doing this right now myself. I'm getting 100% in all games and am currently halfway through FF3 PSP. It's been fun, but I plan on taking breaks every so often. I'm doing mostly PSP versions of the early games since they're usually pretty good updates and the bonus content is nice. Also, everything looks really nice in the PSP versions of 1 and 2. Honestly, I'd avoid the PS1 versions of any of these, mostly for load times, but if you've looked into it already and it the disadvantages don't bother you, then go for it. Hope you have fun.

Thanks mate.

I've beaten the GBA versions so many times and only the ps1 once. Wasn't a huge fan of the extra dungeons. From what I remember the ps1 version is harder (and more tedious) which is why I want to play it. Although I'm looking into some alternative challenges for the GBA version. idk I'm bad at choosing stuff

Screw the fighter, his gear is too expensive to bother grinding for. Monk goes naked until you get a ribbon, the thief can be pretty much equipped with found gear, and then the mages just get the spells as needed.

At least in terms of efficiency that's the way I go.

Fighters are good attack sponges. Any attack against a fighter is basically wasted for that round unless you are fighting something well outside of your abilities (Or you get magic attacked).

perhaps, but "fighter" is more or less a misnomer for most of the early FF titles. "Tank" would be far more accurate. they can take a hit, but their damage output is pretty dismal when weighed against the multi hits of the monk or thief. with the monk, thief, and black mage in the party once black gets access to haste, nothing--not even bosses are going to live long enough to make the damage you're taking much of a concern. the white mage is going to spend 90% of their time either twiddling their thumbs or using the hammer to cast lightning and is there more as an insurance policy to extend your time in dungeons. with a fighter, you're always going to be handicapped by the time you have to spend grinding gold for his best equips. all he is is a meatshield, and an incredibly expensive one at that. why stand there and take damage at all when you can mill everything in your path to dust in the first round to begin with?
