I wanna play 6 eventually so I figure I should play 5 first to get familiar with the mechanics and stuff. I was playing as Rome last time and the only thing that was bothering me was maintaining the happiness of my citizens since it kept on dropping down. I got all of the DLCs.

Keep your influence on city states as high as possible.

Trade any resources you have more than 1 of to other civs for resources you don't have.

Build a military.

And finally, stick to one objective.

Fam just do whatever the fuck you want. It's a very easy game that doesn't need to be overly complicated.

Build exactly four cities.

National College is 100% priority.

Focus on population.

Win.

There, you've just won every Civ 5 game.

this.

if you got Attila as a neighbor get some archers and beeline for construction tech.

any other strategy outside of tradition / 4 cities / national college / beeline universities is done for the fun. i've done fun strats on level 7 difficulty.

You could've just started with 6.

They're standalone games

this is why I didn't enjoy civ 5. It's too cookie cutter. You follow a proven formula to win.

Tradition is still better even after they tried to make Liberty more viable.

For every flaw of Civ 6, I just remember how there is absolutely no better way to play Civ 5 than what I wrote, and that's after two expansions.

Civ 5 BNW punished expanding far too much and cities were far too powerful in defense so that aggression was almost never worth the effort, so just keep pumping science and a handful of units and turtle to win.
