Even if you don't support socialism you still have to acknowledge taxes in the United States are extremely low, we're the only first world nation without a Universal Healthcare System.

taxes in america are not extremely low. federal + state + property + sales taxes = damn near 50% gone.

It's really that the US has a high income tax and a low sales tax compared to other countries. So while in other countries people are paying less in income taxes, they are generally paying more in sale taxes.

that doesnt change that it's hilariously wrong to say that america has "extremely low" taxes

That is true tho. A US citizen pays less in taxes compared to other countries.

http://www.pewresearch.org/fact-tank/2016/04/11/among-developed-nations-americans-tax-bills-are-below-average/

"For instance, the OECD data don’t include taxes paid at the state, provincial or local level (such as sales and property taxes in the U.S.), nor do they include other national taxes, such as gasoline and cigarette taxes in the U.S. or value-added taxes in dozens of other countries. And they include only the individual portion of social-insurance taxes, not anything paid by employers. (In the U.S., for instance, employers and workers both pay Social Security and Medicare taxes.)"

so in other words it is a useless source

socialism is a despicable ideology in every form

On the contrary I'd say a system where people literally crowd fund to pay for medical bills is despicable.

capitalism has created cheaper medicine and technology and prosperity for the greatest number of people. meanwhile people in socialist countries have more household debt than average americans do.

How much do people in socialist countries pay for their medicine compared to people in America? As for technology, what's the internet like for people in socialist countries compared to how it is in America? Are they paying more for lower speeds than us?

the greatest innovations in history have happened and are still happening in capitalistic countries. none of your questions change that america does not have "extremely low" taxes

Pure unregulated capitalism and pure socialism

Where in the world do we have pure, unregulated capitalism? The street markets in Baghdad?

Are you just going to ignore the premiums and deductibles that we pay..

ultimately the question becomes 'are you in the upper middle class'

america kicks ass if you are. my premiums are tax free and mostly paid by my employer, my deductible is 0, healthcare costs me jack shit and i spend plenty of other people's money each year on it

meanwhile, i pay a very low tax rate by OECD terms

it's not such a rosy situation for the single mother with a low income job

when these are contrasted the most fiscal conservatives can say here is 'you made the right choices and she made the wrong ones' which tends to gloss over a lot and is very reductionist. but once that's said a person tends to put their head in the sand and chant something about justice.

Yeah why couldn't that single mother have just studied to become a rocket scientist too.

to be honest, I often wonder about how much individual choice plays a role in our outcomes

it's tough to sort out imho

it seems like almost every successful CEman had relatively affluent parents with only one or two exceptions from what I can tell though
