I think Josh Brolin would be a perfect Joel.

What do you think?

Haven't seen Logan yet, but him as he is in Prisoners would be a great Joel and he's always been the first choice to pop into my head ever since those rumors started.

Yeah, I think I even said that to someone I was talking to when I first watched the movie. Great movie, by the way.

A friend of mine thinks so too. I've had my disagreements, but now I think he wouldn't be a bad choice. I'm still pro-Brolin though.

Can we just stop making video game movies? They take out the most important part: the interactivity and leave so mediocre, soulless cash.

i hate video game movies because they take an experience that last over 10+ hours and try to condense it to 90 mins.

It always loses its charm and its a garbled mess. They also get people who've never played the source material.

Walk from beautiful set piece to beautiful set piece fighting the same groups of infected, humans, or humans and infected over and over. sprinkle in repetitive meaningless move a dumpster to stand on" or move a pallet for Ellie to stand on or pick up a plank from 5 feet away to walk on
The graphics were great and the live acted cutscenes were great and the story was good but it's still just a good tech demo more than a good game.

I feel like maybe it would be best to do a 8~ episode high budget mini series sort of in the vein of Fargo or True Detective (not technically mini series I know) so they have time to fully flesh out the characters and story. Especially since that's really the highlight of the game, their journey over the period of a full year. I don't think a 90-120 minute movie can capture that fully.

Interactive movies would be more like David Cage games.
Currently ND games are admittedly a linear, controlled experience but that isn't inherently a bad thing and I don't know why people constantly choose sides between either A) you care about story or B) you care about gameplay and you can only enjoy one of those things. Just recently I've played things like GTA V and Witcher 3 just fucking around in the open world, then some games with no story whatsoever like Mario Maker, 7 Days to Die, and Rainbow 6 Siege, then I've also recently replayed The Walking Dead Season 1 and Life is Strange which are pretty much all story and characters.
I think all of those games are legitimately great for different reasons.

scripted setpieces and bullet sponge enemies with awful gunplay is not my idea of engaging gameplay

it's rather blatantly obvious what naughty dog prioritizes nowadays, and it's a crying shame because they used to make very enjoyable platformers

My only issue with Naughty Dog games is that they often limit player freedom and good level design for scripted sequences. For example spawning to force you to get discovered when playing a stealth game or blocking a door until you have killed all the enemies in TLOU. Or have long, boring climbing sequences in Uncharted 4 that require next to no input from the player so you can hear the characters crack jokes.

Even then the game plot would need to be something that suits episodes. But yeah some games would work with this.

I think a movie is a hopeless endeavor though.

the only "bullet sponge enemies" are the armored enemies and it makes sense for them to take more shots to go down. The gunplay is good
