What a stupid move, they are gone the minute they hit the shelf

I wonder if that means the price for one will spike

Why?

Unless they need to convert the factory making these things to Switch Production to be able to hit their increased target this is a awful move....

One time Nintendo built a house.

They grabbed some plywood and started nailing it together. They didn't really know how to keep it on the ground so they decided to put a rock on top of it. Then one of the guys hit his thumb with a hammer. So they rushed him to the grocery store and asked for a paralegal. Despite being informed they needed a doctor at the hospital, Nintendo proceded to grab a floppy disk and rub it over his ankle. They were going to then return to building the house, but they couldn't find it. So they just discontinued the whole thing.

Ridiculous.

I happened to grab one out in a walmart in the middle of bum fuck egypt like three days after Thanksgiving. Ended up giving it to my sister for Xmas cause she wouldn't shut up about how bad she wanted one and is too dumb to figure out emulation.

Nintendo is so fucking stupid why would they discontinue it when people are still clamoring for it to this day? I can't say I'm surprised though, I haven't seen any signs or anything promoting it since the new year in any store I go to. It's all been about the Switch.

At this point it's just a fucking joke to Nintendo. NES Mini, Amiibos, short selling Wii U Breath of the Wild copies, Nintendo just thinks its funny to fuck with their most hardcore fans at this point.

Everyone says this but I can not for the life of me figure out what it would accomplish.

Yay everyone thinks everyone wants one.

I mean if they did it for a week or two and then released a million of them, that would make a little bit of sense. But what's the point of making everyone want one if you're not even making enough for the people that genuinely wanted one before you tricked everyone else anyway? They didn't raise the price, so it's not that.

The only explanation that makes sense is that they just have no clue what they're doing.

Because this is common practice in the toy market, Nintendo think of themselves as a toy company and believes that videogames are toys for children.

Also yes Nintendo really do have no idea what they're doing

He's spot on, though. Nintendo isn't even the only video game company that does it. Look at FFXV Limited edition. There are fucking things that have a production cost of literally 0 yet companies will enforce artificial scaricty. See: Limited availability skins in various games like Overwatch, Smite, etc.

To Nintendo, this wasn't about the money, it was about raising the value of their brand, and to that end the NES Classic accomplished its goal.

I find it really difficult to believe that people are actually surprised by this.
Nintendo: "Hey this is a limited time thing."
People: "But we want it so bad!"
Nintendo: "Ok here's a few more but that's it!"
People: "Yay thanks!......now where are the rest?"

They did exactly what they said they would.

Imagine a game had DLC, but you could only buy the DLC for one month, and after that they deleted it from the store. Everyone who bought it gets to keep it, but no one can ever buy it ever again.

that also happens.

In Smite, they released a Skin called "Poolseidon" which was Poseidon in campy swimming pool gear. This was only ever distributed as a code physically printed on cards. First come first serve. Once all those cards got used up, they're gone forever.

Every so often someone whips out an unused card and tries to sell it for hundreds of dollars.
