I agree with your bah

I don't need a guy to hand me a paper towel, and I certainly don't want to give him a dollar for it

You haven't seen a lot of things in your life, doesn't mean they don't exist.

Are there places that actually employ them? I don't think I've been anywhere fancy enough for that. I've seen bathroom attendants in bars downtown, but they clearly seem to just be random dudes who are trying to make a quick buck

The only time I saw them was either in a club or a strip club. I can't remember which.

I don't think they do exist, and people just made up an entire profession for the sole purpose of making jokes.

They exist, but like I said, I'm still not sure if they're legitimate employees. In all my experiences they've just been glorified panhandlers

They are there to prevent people from throwing shit on the ceiling.

I had to clean it off the walls multiple times and clean up explosive diarrhea when I was a janitor. It was a shitty job.

I still don't see how that would be prevented by an attendant, especially if it was mainly confined to the stall

I think the local homeless population having sex in the stalls would be a bigger concern. :/

Eh normally those guys(and woman for that matter in the ladies) are there to offer a spray of whatever aftershave you want that they have I find in clubs at least. It's overpriced just for a couple of sprays but sometimes I do it. I don't see no harm in it to be honest.

If they don't hand me that towel, how am I supposed to dry my hands? Like it or not, they work for that shiny, new dime.

I haven't either.

Then again I can't believe they actually charge money to use the bathroom in some places. Like how crazy backwards is that? My sister loved London when she went there on a trip, but she said even junky bathrooms required money to enter. That's just messed up. I heard some places charge for tap water too... with no free refills. What?! Germany was the example there.

Even at home tap water isn't free with water rates and whatnot. This is more understandable than charging to use a bathroom.

A restaurant shouldn't charge for water though because they make money elsewhere. If they want to profit off water, then they should just sell bottled water because apparently people are still stupid enough to accept buying it at a restaurant.

Tap water is incredibly cheap, one glass is worth fractions of a cent. Restaurants don't need to charge for it to recuperate the costs, they just do it to squeeze money out of customers. Personally, though, I've never been charged for water; is it really that common of a practice in Europe or is that guy exaggerating it?

Edit: Not to mention that flushing a toilet and washing your hands uses way more water than any normal person is going to drink in one outing at a restaurant, yet you claim it's more understandable than charging for a bathroom.

I've been charged like 10p for water before but most the time they don't charge in the places I go in. It's still not a big deal if they do in my opinion.

The bathroom thing is definitely true, in London at least. I haven't traveled personally so I can't say. I stress that my sister still loved London; it's just one of the quirks not expected. Also bathtubs that are tubs on support feet instead of shaped against walls and elevators that announce the opening/closing of the doors.

On the topic though, bathroom attendants being a thing is something I had no idea about. What do they even do? It's kind of creepy.
